As an Industrial Steel Estimator, you will produce accurate, detail-oriented estimates (unit price and lump sum) on small and large complex industrial steel projects. You will maintain and update our unit pricing database and develop pricing for new pay categories, as determined by the project requirements. This will be accomplished through collaborative efforts with various GWICC disciplines such as: fabrication, purchasing, pre-construction, sub-fabrication and 3rd party vendors, and field erection as applicable. Our Estimators provide the business with estimates that can be accurately interpreted and executed by our Project Team.
Core Responsibilities:
* Review and analyze bid documents, project specifications, models, and other documentation presented by the client, to accurately prepare and estimate projects.
* Prepare detail oriented and accurate estimates on new projects and estimate prices for any change orders on existing contracts, meeting assigned deadlines.
* Quantify steel materials, estimate all necessary shop labor, estimate materials, buyout items (with supporting quotations from vendors/subcontractors) and field labor and equipment costs where applicable to prepare a thorough bid estimate.
* Collaborate with project team members on building to specifications in fabrication, coatings, and erection.
* Appraise and communicate to management team any potential risks and/or conditions not fully captured in estimate that may impact costs of the project.
* Be comfortable to discuss alternative recommendations on projects in which management requires alternative estimates to meet client needs.
* Work directly with Sales and Pre-construction Teams to understand size and scope of projects along with timelines and applicable project deadlines.
* Adhere to and follow the GWICC estimating guidelines and procedures.
* Enter estimates and take off information into our software programs and complete customer bid forms and updates.
* Keep and maintain meticulous records, with all files stored in specified network folders.

Education/Training
High school diploma or equivalent with structural drawing or drafting course work. Vocation or other secondary education program.
Work Experience
Five years of progressively responsible experience estimating industrial steel construction projects. Proven experience as a construction or steel estimator with industrial unit price project experience. Must have proven experience providing companies with accurate information that aids operations in achieving corporate goals.
Specialized Knowledge
As outlined in the Core Competencies, an individual must have thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency outlined above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position. Specialized Knowledge is also required of customary construction terminology and knowledge estimating software packages. Basic understanding of job cost accounting and project management concepts. The ideal candidate will be very comfortable with numbers and analytical. You must have great attention to detail and excellent written communication skills.
Software & Technology
Various office equipment is used such as personal computer, scanner, and copier. Extensive knowledge of computer software Windows and Microsoft Office. Proficiency in software applications Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word. Familiar with utilization[RW1] of Tekla or other BIM modeling programs (i.e. Revit, NavisWorks, Solid Works).
Work Environment
Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office area, preferably in our Humble, TX or Duluth, GA offices. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time throughout a normal 8-hour day. Working long days, evenings, and weekends may be required as needed.
