Job Description:
As a Molecular PCR Laboratory Manager, you will manage activities in the IDEXX BioAnalytics PCR business unit. You will manage staff, assign work and evaluate results. You will support the development of the business unit budget, operating policies and procedures while driving process improvements. The laboratory is based in Columbia, Missouri and employs approximately 60 people. In this Role:
  • You will manage the activities in the Molecular PCR unit.
  • You will manage staff and/or supervisors, assigning work, monitoring activities and evaluating performance. You'll manage escalated/critical issues, administer employment actions, provide coaching and guidance to staff and promote staff training and development.
  • You will lead work activities of the PCR team, planning and organizing work, providing for adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained.
  • In this role you will Identify and implement strategies and efficiencies to enhance customer experience and align with business operations.
  • You will communicate with other related departments to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed. You'll provide internal and/or external customer feedback and lead/participate in new or ongoing project work and other areas as needed.
  • You will strive for continuous improvement by leading/contributing to process improvements based on evaluation of existing procedures and business needs. To achieve this goal, you'll utilize data, metrics and system tools to ensure efficiency and to maximize customer experience
  • You'll prepare reports and other information summarizing work activities and report results to peer groups as well as senior management.
What You Need To Succeed:EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in a Science-related field, MS and/or PhD strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • 2-4 years of Management experience required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Management skills and ability.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and direct work activities.
  • Experience with the operations of PCR.
  • Ability to set up high-throughput molecular reactions, specifically PCR reactions
  • General Molecular PCR business knowledge required
  • Excellent customer service and business relationship-building skills required.
  • Reasoning, problem solving and analytical skills to resolve issues.
  • Project management skills and abilities.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Personal computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Extensive sitting, standing and computer use.
  • Extend and reach with hands and arms and use hands and fingers.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • May be required to lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Fluency in the English language
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • General labs environment.
  • Normal noise level, with occasional moderate noise.

Schedule:
  • The hours for this position are Monday - Friday 12 pm to 8.30 pm.
  • The hours may vary slightly depending on business needs.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
