Position SummaryThe Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Measures and interprets patients' heart rhythm and documents on patient record per departmental standards. Initiates and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs clerical duties related to admission, discharge, and documentation of patient information from Central Telemetry.Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:1. Understands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.2. Performs tasks listed in job summary according to policy and procedure.3. Integrates patient's rights into work practice.4. Utilizes current methods of infection control.5. Participates in Performance Improvement Initiatives.6. Utilizes appropriate steps in the decision making process to include recognition and priority setting related to patient care and unit based issues.7. Collaborates and communicates with the health care team.8. Completes competency requirements.9. Attends mandatory inservices.10. Attends staff meetings as required/ requested.11. Utilizes cost containment practices.12. Adheres to all WPHC policies and procedures including dress code, code of conduct, customer service, attendance and submission of annual physical.13. Performs all other related duties as assigned.Education & Experience Requirements• High school diploma or GED.• Successful completion of WPH 4 Day EKG course and EKG exam prior to completion of orientation.• Possess and maintain current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health care Providers (must be completed during orientation).Core Competencies• Teamwork & Adaptability• Acts as a Professional Role Model• Excellent Communication Skills (both verbal and written)• Attention to Detail• Planning & Organizing• Sound Problem-Solving, Judgment and Decision-Making Skills• Stress TolerancePhysical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment• May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).
