The Monitored Care Unit Nurse develops a Plan of Care for assigned patients (adult and geriatric) using the Nursing Process to meet the physiological, psychological, spiritual, and emotional needs, and judging the patient's ability to participate in the plan.The nurse performs a nursing assessment on admission including neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal and genitourinary parameters.Specific tasks include but are not limited to care of the pre and post procedural/surgical patient (Recovery Room after hours), IV therapy, external pacing, management of airways (O2 therapy, ET tubes, tracheostomy management, NT/ET suctioning, vents, and chest tubes.Other duties are management of patient with drains or tubes (feeding, lavage, PEG), catheters (urethral, suprapubic, 3-way irrigation), those requiring laboratory tests or specimens, administration of blood and blood products, and preparation of patient for transfer to another unit or hospital.The MCU nurse is responsible for patient/family teaching, participating in Quality control, narcotic counts, checking physician orders, reviewing previous test results, and understands significance.Maintains complete documentation in the Electronic Medical Record Flowsheet.Schedule/Shift:
- May be required to work any day of the week, including holidays and weekends.
- 7:00 pm - 7:30 am
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Licensed and current registration as a Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.New graduate must sit for boards and submit for IL licensure within 6 months of hire.
- Current CPR and/or ACLS Certification
- Clinical experience preferred but not required
- Good working knowledge of the Nursing Process and strong nursing practice skills including physical assessment skills
Pay Range:
- Monitored Care Unit Nurse (PRN Day Shift): $40.00
- Monitored Care Unit Nurse (PRN Night Shift): $50.00
