Our mission as the RESC in western Connecticut to is to promote the success of area school districts and their communities. EdAdvance is also a partner in the RESC Alliance and works collaboratively with the other RESC groups to support state-wide initiatives. In addition, EdAdvance operates five specialized school programs for students who are requiring educational placement outside of their district. Van Monitors Reports to: Director of Transportation Full or Part-time positions are available Non-Exempt Various Locations Hourly Rate: Positions is open until filled. Overview: We are seeking caring and reliable Special Needs Van Monitors to assist the van driver in safely transporting students to and from out-of-district placements. The position is either full-time or part-time with summer hours required. We offer a competitive hourly rate and a comprehensive benefits package, including paid sick days, holidays, and personal time off for our full-time staff. Major Responsibilities:
- Create a safe, comfortable and orderly atmosphere for passengers.
- Safely, reliably, and courteously, support students with special needs as they are transported to and from school or to other educational placement facilities.
- Must be able to establish a positive relationship with children and maintain order and handle emotional or behavioral challenges of students.
- Must be able to secure students in a seat belt or harness
- Must be able to safely enter and disembark a van multiple times during the day
- Must be able to move around the van to help students on an off the van
Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, teachers and staff
- Ability to form positive relationships with students and manage difficult behaviors
- Must be responsible, caring, and willing to work with children who have special needs
