* Personal vehicle is required for this position.Position Description: This internship offers a comprehensive experience in natural resource management, providing hands-on opportunities to work with endangered, native, and invasive species. It emphasizes the importance of hydrological studies, including water quality and habitat preservation. Based on the candidate's interests, integrated resource management training may also be provided within our cultural resources division. The intern may assist with inventorying museum objects, monitoring environmental conditions at the museum, participating in a partnership program with a Tribal Youth Project focused on traditional eel weirs, and researching ethnographic resources. This position combines fieldwork, data collection, collaboration, and outreach.Responsibilities:
- Assist in re-surveying known endangered mussel populations.
- Set and collect traps for a freshwater turtle inventory.
- Document removal efforts for an invasive mystery snail.
- Assist with designing materials to educate the public about the impact of the snails.
- Collect water samples and deploy probes.
- Monitor nesting activities of birds.
- Assist with native vegetation restoration.
Qualifications:
- Major studies relevant to this position: A degree in biological sciences is preferred.
- Able to swim and have the ability to canoe/kayak.
- Express interest in working in outdoor field-based environments.
- Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather; some days may involve full days on the river.
