Client Details The client is a small-privately owned manufacturer of motors, drives, controllers, and feedback systems that are used for motion control in the laboratory automation and medical device sectors. They offer a broad range of products that are applicable in Brushless DC, DC Brush, and Step motors. This is a small and dynamic company which will offer a lot of opportunity for growth into commercial leadership. Description Key Responsibilities: Technical Expertise & Customer Support: Serve as the primary technical resource for customers, helping them to integrate motion control solutions into their lab automation and medical device systems. Provide technical guidance to customers on product selection, system integration, and design to ensure optimal performance in their specific application. Conduct system assessments, feasibility studies, and demonstrations of motion control technologies, ensuring that all solutions meet customer specifications and requirements. Application Development & Customization: Work closely with customers to understand their specific motion control needs for lab automation and medical devices. Collaborate with engineering teams to customize motion control solutions, including the selection of motors, actuators, controllers, drives, and sensors. Assist in the design, implementation, and validation of motion control systems for medical device applications, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards (e.g., FDA, ISO). Customer Training & Documentation: Provide hands-on training and technical support to customers, ensuring they are able to effectively utilize motion control solutions. Create and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, technical guides, and application notes to assist customers and internal teams. Lead product and solution presentations for customers, both virtually and on-site, ensuring clear understanding of the system's capabilities and applications. Collaboration with Sales & Engineering Teams: Support the sales team by providing technical expertise in customer meetings, helping to convert technical requirements into successful sales opportunities. Work with engineering and R&D teams to relay customer feedback, help develop new products, and refine existing ones based on market demands. Ensure the smooth handoff of projects from pre-sales to post-sales, providing ongoing support during product installation and deployment. Testing, Validation & On-Site Support: Conduct on-site support and testing for motion control systems, working directly with customers to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. Help customers validate the performance and functionality of motion control systems in real-world conditions, ensuring systems are optimized for lab automation and medical device environments. Industry Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all solutions adhere to relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., FDA, IEC, ISO, UL) for lab automation and medical devices. Stay up-to-date on the latest industry trends, technologies, and regulatory requirements in motion control, lab automation, and medical devices. Travel Requirements: This role requires up to 50% travel throughout California to customer locations for on-site support, system testing, and training. Profile Requirements: Experience: 5 years of experience in motion control systems, including motors, actuators, drives, controllers, and feedback systems. Proven experience in applying motion control technologies in lab automation or medical device industries (e.g., automated laboratory equipment, diagnostic devices, medical robotics). Experience with motion control software platforms and programming tools (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, PLC programming, embedded systems). Technical Skills: Strong understanding of motion control principles, including linear and rotary motion, PID control, and system integration. Experience with medical device requirements, including design, validation, and testing to meet industry standards (e.g., FDA, ISO). Proficient in using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) for motion system design and integration. Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC 60601 (medical electrical equipment) and ISO 13485 (quality management for medical devices). Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related technical field is required. Master's degree in a relevant field or industry certifications (e.g., ISO, Six Sigma) are a plus. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong customer-facing skills, with a proven ability to build relationships and trust with clients. Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote setting, while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Technology Proficiency: Proficiency in using motion control software tools, diagnostic software, and CAD systems. Experience with industry-standard control systems (e.g., Siemens, Beckhoff, National Instruments) and understanding of their role in lab automation and medical device applications. Other Requirements: Must be willing to travel up to 50% across California for customer visits, product installations, and system validation activities. Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and provide practical solutions in a fast-paced environment.
