POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Motor Vehicle Operator (MVO), you will be responsible for transporting military goods safely and efficiently cross country. This position requires extensive over-the-road experience, exceptional driving skills, and the ability to operate manual transmissions. The ideal candidate will possess a clean driving record and will be able to pass an in-depth background check to obtain a Top Secret clearance. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility of this role involves a 2-person drive team with continuous driving across the country, making 4-8 stops per trip. Our drivers typically switch driving duties every 300 miles or 6 hours, ensuring safe and efficient transport. While one driver operates the vehicle, the other rests. All trips are pre-scheduled by our Transportation Office and often range between 10-14 days in duration. Trips typically commence on Mondays at 0300. Please note the nature of our work requires flexibility, as we occasionally have late after-hour deliveries and pickups, as our customer operates at all hours. Secure loads using block and brace techniques to prevent shifting during transit Maintain open communication with dispatchers and customer to coordinate delivery/pickup time and address any issues Effectively manage time to meet delivery deadlines while prioritizing safety and efficiency Utilize navigation skills to plan routes and navigate unfamiliar areas Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance checks to ensure safe operation; call out solutions or maintenance requirements to dispatch Demonstrate adaptability in responding to changing road conditions, weather patterns, and unforeseen circumstances Utilize effective communication skills, including proficiency in the Defense Travel System (DTS) and email correspondence, to coordinate travel arrangements KEY QUALIFICATIONS: 5 years over-the-road driving experience Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and HAZMAT endorsement Clean driving record with no history of major violations or accidents Willingness to occasionally travel by commercial airlines as needed to catch a load Proficiency in operating on a manual transmission
