Bureau of Motor Vehicles is seeking motivated candidates for the anticipated vacancy of Motor Vehicle Title Examinerin the Title Services Division. Who are we? As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in examining motor vehicle title applications, approving, or denying claims of ownership, and issuing certificates of title. You will be examining and processing a high volume of applications for title to issue or reject in accordance with Maine law and Bureau of Motor Vehicles rules and policies. You will determine the legitimacy of court documents, assignments of ownership from various jurisdictions, vehicle repossessions, and vehicle brands to deter fraud. Work hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Examines title applications and associated documents for accuracy in order to determine vehicle ownership and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Review, verify, and update computer records to march information on documents.
- Correspond with vehicle owners, dealers, lienholders and others in writing, telephone and other communication methods to acquire missing information or to resolve problems on title applications.
- Identify cases of suspected misconduct, document alternations and falsifications for further actions.
- Research files and vehicle information using various methods such as paper, microfilm, scanned images, internet, and national databases including NMVTIS
- Determines facts, detects errors and irregularities, and takes appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.

In order to be successful, you must have:
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and equipment related to quality control of data input and output.
- Ability to verify, compute, and/or reconcile data on standard documents.
- Ability to conduct research, gather information, and analyze results to reach a conclusion.
- Ability to examine motor vehicle title applications and associated documents such as liens, chain of ownership, vehicle and odometer information, and signatures to determine vehicle ownership.
- Ability to understand and promote management goals as they affect day-to-day operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience.)
- Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates:
o competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and o the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters.
