DescriptionESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Ensure compliance with all railroad and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules and regulations for safety and operations.
- Participates in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings and process reviews.
- Remove and replace track and track components (ties, rails, rail bars, bolts, etc.).
- Replace or repair track switches with specific components.
- Slide and align tie plates.
- Drill holes through rails for insertion of bolts; tighten or loosen bolts at joints that hold the ends of rails together.
- Correct deviations in track surface, alignment, and gauge.
- Cut rails to specific lengths; adjust, lift, and roll rails.
- Receive instructions, requests, orders, and information from posted bulletins.
- Sort track materials for loading and unloading.
- Install and repair railroad street crossing materials.
- Cut brush and vegetation from right of way, clear snow, and ice from switches, etc.
- Spray switches, angle bars and joints with oil for lubrication.
RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High school graduate/GED required.
- Must have and maintain a Valid Drivers' License. CDL-B license is required (must be attained within 9 months of date of hire if not currently licensed on date of hire); CDL-A license is preferred.
- Excellent vehicle driving record.
- 18 years of age or older
EXPERIENCE:
- Outside work experience (construction, heavy equipment operation, farming, landscaping, etc.) required.
- Welding experience preferred.
- CFR 213.7 Qualified Track Inspector preferred.
BASIC COMPETENCIES:
- Effective verbal communication in English.
- Must have the ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
- Effective reasoning skills for problem solving and troubleshooting tasks.
- Commitment to safety as the number one priority.
- Position requires results-oriented individual with a sense of urgency.
- Basic math skills.
