Most importantly, we will build strong relationships with design engineers, contractors, plant operations teams and project owners to assure we are their first-choice supplier for both new construction and future upgrades.Job DescriptionThe Lead Pipe Fab Machine Operator assists the Plant Superintendent with daily operation tasks, including production scheduling, shipment scheduling, fabrication requirements, production start-up, and cross-training employees. The Lead Machine Operator is responsible for measuring, threading, adjusting flange fit, and facing the flange on a ductile or steel pipe. The position must use all manual machine tools, such as lathes and threaders. Work also includes operating the machines and cranes to move pipe in and out of machining centers.Scope of Responsibilities* 1st Responsibility - Ensuring personal safety and the safety of your team members.* Assists supervisors and managers in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment.* Wear appropriate PPE, including fall protection, respiratory protection, hearing protection, foot, hand, head, and eye protection.* Assist with daily shipment scheduling for the pipe fab area.* Assist the Plant Superintendent with the daily and weekly scheduling of released-to-build (WIP) orders and build sequence.* Identify fabrication requirements for each piece on released work orders.* Assigns personnel to each machine for the daily production schedule.* Ensure start-up readiness and end-of-shift 6's programs are completed.* The Lead Operator will be proficient in quality and able to meet prescribed production output objectives and standards for the work center.* Good with math and able to read a tape measure and micrometer.* Ability to understand machinery processes.* Strong work ethic, initiative, and attention to detail.* Team player, willing to work when needed, help, and volunteer to be cross-trained on every piece of equipment in our shop.* Basic fabrication processes are:* Saw cut pipe, thread pipe, flange pipe (2-hole alignment if required), welding, drill & tap, paint, package, and ship.* Skilled operators place the pipe in the machine, center it, and tighten it for work. After the pipe is in place, the operator machines tapered threads into it. During this process, the machine operator is responsible for verifying measurements, such as thread depth, correct taper, and overall length, that meet requirements.* After the threads are cut, the operator tests the flange to make sure it screws onto the pipe correctly.* Apply glue to the pipe and flange, and use the machine to tighten the flange onto the pipe.* For Threaders - Remove the pipe from the machine and move to the next processing operation.* For Lathes - Run the cutting tool across the surface of the face of the flange to flush fit the flange onto the pipe.Work Environment:* While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.* The employee is required to communicate both verbally and written in English.* Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.* Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.* Must be able to meet and adhere to physical requirements as well as adhere to wearing the appropriate PPE (steel-toed boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection)* Must be able to work in dust and fumes.* Will be required to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.* Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.* Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.* Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus and determine and distinguish color.* Must have the ability to operate a forklift and obtain certification.Qualifications* 1-3 years of experience in a similar role* High school diploma or GED required* Previous experience as a machine operator in manufacturing preferred* Computer skillsPosition Requirements* Standing, walking, stooping, balancing, kneeling, reaching, and sitting are some of the physical requirements.* Must be able to meet and adhere to physical requirements as well as wearing the appropriate PPE (steel toed boots, safety glasses, hearing protection and mask).* Will be required to work in the following conditions: heat, cold, noise, and vibration.* Must be able to work in dust and fumes.* Must have the ability to operate forklift or overhead crane.* Possible overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.* Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.* Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.Additional Information1st Shift M-F 6:30 am - 3:00 pmHourly Rate: $28.57-$30.69Excellent benefits include 9 paid holidays plus 2 floating holidays, 3 weeks PTO, and a weekly pay schedule, a 401k plan and company health insurance plans, Education Assistance, a Wellness Program, and an Employee Assistance Program.Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
