Munich Re Specialty Group North America (MRSG N.A.) is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us as we grow. As part of Munich Re Group, we are a unique organization providing expertise in specialty and marine lines of insurance as well as surety risks and customs bonds with in-house claims solutions. We are seeking a full time Associate Underwriter, Ocean Marine to join the Munich Re Specialty Group Insurance Services division to be a Hybrid employee in our Schaumburg, Illinois office reporting to the VP, Ocean Marine. Job Profile

  • Work with US underwriting team on renewal insurance business
  • Manage and evaluate renewal business to ensure risk quality
  • Use underwriting standards and guidelines to assess risk across assigned business line
  • Request peer reviews (internal audits) and refer business out of authority to foster consistent and profitable risk selection
  • Collaborate with account Lead Underwriter and peers to identify profit and loss trends to drive department profitability goals
  • Monitor client needs, insurance market developments and economic changes to ensure future planning aligns with long-range business growth goals
  • Manage renewal book of business by accepting or rejecting accounts based on sound underwriting judgement and effective communication with the Lead Underwriter
  • Meets with agents/brokers and insureds in order to build business partnerships and relationships
  • Contribute to the enhancement of underwriting tools, platforms, forms, services and standards, including documentation and training for new hires
  • Assist with the assignment of surveys as required
  • Account servicing
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience preferred
  • US Ocean and Inland experience, some Marine experience a plus
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency in underwriting Ocean Marine and working knowledge of underwriting standards
  • Understanding of laws and regulations governing geography, class of business and industry
  • Experience with EPIC or other insurance management platforms a plus
  • Ability to negotiate to a mutually beneficial and desired outcome (internal and external)
  • Ability to work within a dynamic and growing organization
  • Ability to travel occasionally within US and assigned region to maintain business partnerships and relationships; reinforce and promote the Munich Re value proposition
