Position Type: Custodial/Food Service/Transportation/Kitchen AssistantDate Posted: 7/24/2024Location: Wadena-Deer Creek Middle-High SchoolDate Available: Open until filledClosing Date: Open until filled.District: Wadena-Deer Creek SD 2155 Food Service Worker Position Purpose Under the direct supervision of the Food Service Director, to assist in maintaining an orderly and safe atmosphere in the kitchen. Performs a wide range of duties involved with preparing and/or serving foods and beverages in one or more of a variety of food service environments. May perform such duties as preparing salad items, hot foods, and/or cold foods as appropriate to the postition. Assist in cleaning work areas, equipment, utensils. May assist in the set up, and service: as appropriate to the area of operation. May serve food to students and/or perform cashering duties: as appropriate. Essential Functions:
  • Sets up food service, kitchen, or salad area facilities, equipment and utensils, under detailed instruction and, in accordance with specific area needs: checks food temperatures and/or prepares areas for daily operations: may operate cooking and baking equipment as assigned.
  • Conveys food and supplies from the main kitchen, bakery, and/or salad preparation area to the serving site either by carrying or by utilizing a cart.
  • Follows prescribed procedures in setting up hot and cold food lines; chooses proper utensils and sets steam line to appropriate temperature for menu items.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of hot and cold meat and vegetable dishes, beverages, salads, sandwiches, simple bakery items, salad dressings, and/or similiar food items, as appropraite to the position
  • Serves food to students from counters and/or steam tables, in accordance with specific instructions, ensuring that appropriate portions are served, and adds relishes and garnishes according to instructions.
  • Replenishes foods, silverware, glassware, dishes, and trays at serving stations; may order and replenish condiments.
  • May clean, wash and maintain work areas, including floors, facilities, pots, pans service ware, utensils, and equipment: collects and places garbage and trash in designated containers; as appropraite to the area of operation.
  • May perform cashiering duties, as required.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of food preparation and presenation methods, techniques, and quality standards.
  • Knowledge of food service lines set-up and temperature requirements.
  • Skill in cooking and preparing a variety of foods.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and district guidelines.
  • Level 2 Serve Safe certification is required within 2 years of employment.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Works in standard school environment.
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects.
Qualifications Profile Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: Certification/License:
  • Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Must be willing to acquire Serve Safe certification within 60 days of hire.
Experience:
  • Successful prior experience working as a lunch or food service worker, preferably in a school district or with children.
