Multilingual/Special Education Liaison (1.0 FTE) for an immediate start The Exceptional Learners Collaborative (ELC) is seeking licensed applicants for the 2024-2025 school year. The ELC is located in Vernon Hills (Lake County), Illinois; is a special education cooperative providing services to students identified with special needs, ages 3 through 22 years of age. The ELC represents Kildeer Countryside Community Consolidated School District 96, Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103, Adlai E. Stevenson High School District 125 and Fox Lake District 114. The ELC serves eight elementary schools, four junior high/middle schools and one high school. Description: As we continue to provide world-class, specialized educational services and supports locally for our exceptional learners in partnership with families and districts, the Multingual/Special Education Liaison will support our students with a variety of needs in a more structured learning environment. Qualifications: - Valid Professional Educators License with endorsements in either LBS1, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, or Speech and Language Pathologist, AND ESL endorsement
- Specialized knowledge of the current principles and techniques of educating students with significant disabilities and emergent language needs in general education classrooms
- Ability to travel within the member districts of the ELC
- Extensive knowledge of second language acquisition and development
- Bilingual preferred
- Experience with special education students
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: - Provides support to staff in TBE and TPI programs and assists general education teachers and paraeducators to ensure that all students have chances to succeeed in the classroom
- Uses knowledge of federal and state mandates to assist students who require language and/or special education services
- Participates in IEP and intervention meetings with teachers, parents, psychologists, physical, occupational and speech therapists and other special education professionals
- Co-facilitates teacher training on strategies and practices related to the full inclusion of students with language needs
- Works with teachers, paraeducators and students to create and implement appropriate support plans
- Attends special education meetings and consults with other professionals to continuously implements the best inclusion practices for students who may have language difficulties and learning disabilities
- Provides increased instructional resources, family support, and cultural responsiveness to all members of the ELC/SHS community
- Keeps current on best practices, research and legislation surrounding multilingual education
- Fulfills many duties in assisting teachers, paraeducators, students with language needs and their peers and parents to ensure inclusion is successfully implemented in general education
