- Bachelor's degree or higher in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
- Minimum of three to five (3-5) years experience in digital/print content creation including, but not limited to experience in photography, graphic design, videography, and/or print production
- Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
- Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews, write stories, take photographs and produce all forms of print and digital communications; demonstrated ability to work with people both individually and in groups.
- Extensive experience with the creation of multimedia print and digital content (Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Google Suite, Adobe PremierePro (or equivalent video editing software)
Reports to: Executive Director of Communications Job Goal: Assists the South-Western City Schools Communications Services Department with the creation of print and digital content that helps to convey the day-to-day positive stories of the district to students, staff, and families. Specifically, this role will be responsible for creating engaging content (such as video, social media content, fliers, posters, infographics, etc) for digital platforms and assisting with print production on an as-needed basis. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Communications Services Department with the management of district communication activities, involving internal and external audiences, including community relations, marketing and public relation efforts
- Visits schools and solicits stories suitable for print/digital content creation
- Interviews students, employees, community members and other stakeholders about district programs, events, and items of interest to the district's audiences
- Assists with the design, writing, and editing of district publications including newsletters, brochures, websites, news releases, social media graphics, feature stories, annual reports and other documents as needed
- Provides editorial assistance to other departments as needed
- Possesses advanced computer skills, e.g., graphic design, video editing, desktop publishing, word processing, spreadsheets
- Ability and willingness to be trained to use various print shop machinery (ex: wide format, collators, bindery, copiers etc.)
- Assists with the processing and redacting of public records requests fielded by the department
- Works with the Personnel Department to create compelling marketing materials to assist with recruiting and hiring objectives for trade shows, paid advertising content on social, and networking platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed
- Coordinates and facilitates photography at district events in conjunction with the district Communications Specialist with some after hours/weekend event coverage as needed
- Serves as crisis communications backup for Executive Director of Communications and Communications Specialist as needed
- Attends Board of Education meetings as-needed and assists with set-up and tear down of events as requested
- Stays on the forefront of professional practices in the field of communications and public relations and serves as a role model for students and staff
- Frequent travel between school buildings during the day required
