Description:Jefferson County Open Space's (JCOS) Heritage Stewardship program is seeking a temporary
Museum Collections Assistant to support the inventory of artifacts stored at Hiwan Heritage Park & Museum. Under general supervision, the successful candidate will update and add catalog records, unpack and rehouse artifacts, and ensure proper long-term storage of the collection. Jefferson County Open Space contributes to city and park district projects, has preserved more than 57,000 acres, and manages 27 open space parks and more than 269 miles of trails in Jefferson County, Colorado. The Heritage Stewardship Team is tasked with the protection and management of cultural and paleontological resources on Open Space properties including 365 cultural sites, 34 paleontological sites, and more than a hundred historic buildings and structures including the Hiwan Museum. The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience working with museum and/or archival collections and has proven experience working independently.
Schedule: This is a temporary, part-time position of up to 16 hours per week with a
flexible schedule. This position will be required to report to Evergreen and may be able to occasionally work remotely.
Compensation: The anticipated hiring rate for this position is $29-$31 per hour dependent on qualifications. Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Conduct an inventory of collections currently housed in the Hiwan Museum.
- Ensure proper location description in PastPerfect Online.
- Safely move and handle a wide range of artifacts.
- Research accessioned artifacts in digital and physical files.
- Train interns and volunteers to assist with the inventory.
- Share information about the collection with staff and visitors.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Active enrollment in an accredited college or university seeking a Bachelors or Master's degree in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Library & Information Science, or a closely related field.
OR
- Completion of a Bachelors or Master's degree in Museum Studies, History, Art History, Library & Information Science, or a closely related field.
OR
- One year of professional experience in processing museum collections.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience conducting inventories of a museum collection
- Experience handling a wide variety of artifacts
- Excellent problem-solving ability
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and with volunteers
- Familiarity with PastPerfect Online
- Ability to hit the ground running and move easily between tasks
