We are a private non-profit institution that transforms understanding of the history and impact of architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, and design. The National Building Museum educates, entertains, and engages people about the built environment and challenges them to advocate for a sustainable and equitable future.Position DescriptionThis position provides logistical and technical support to Museum Services, Events and other operations departments of the Museum. These activities include general labor, program and event equipment setup and strike, event and general A/V support, protecting the museum's physical assets, and occasional loading dock oversight. The Museum is looking to hire 3-4 people with a flexible schedule to work day, evenings, and weekends. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • General labor to support day-to-day museum activities, including moving and arranging Great Hall furnishings, office furniture, hanging fixtures, distribution of mail and packages, and other logistics-related tasks.
  • Manage internal A/V needs, including but not limited to: projection, sound, and presentation setup and monitoring, Museum Shop lighting maintenance, and general exhibit display maintenance.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of museum storage areas.
  • Distribute mail, packages, and water jugs as requested.
  • Provide logistical support for internal event and program needs, including setup, strike, and storage of tables, chairs, and linens.
  • Weekly hours will vary between 10-20 hours per week.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma.
  • Experience operating basic A/V equipment required.
  • Intermediate knowledge of how to set up and operate DVD, LCD projector, and sound equipment.
  • Maintain professionalism and courtesy in appearance and interactions at all times.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in a professional setting.
  • Computer competency.
  • Capable of heavy physical work.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and frequently push, pull, and move equipment and fixtures.
  • This position supports museum activities, as well as events and programs, which is will require daytime, evening and/or weekend availability.

This is an active work position that requires the ability to move about the Museum frequently and to position oneself to interact and communicate appropriately with visitors, clients and vendors. Employee will be responsible for moving objects of up to 75 lbs. when needed.
