POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Music Ministry Coordinator

LOCATION/DEPT: Mayfair Corps

REPORTS TO: Corps Officers

FLSA CATEGORY: Non-exempt

STATUS TYPE: RFT

OUTCOMES

Provide leadership, organization and supervision over all programs related to the music programs at the Corps. To collaborate with the staff for effective programs and Bible teaching.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and implement music programs through out the year.
  • Expand the Senior Music School ministry and engage in bridging Music School participants to Corps spiritual programs. Be familiar with Salvation Army programs and make referrals as needed.
  • Liaise with Divisional Headquarters Music and Creative Arts department staff with details on inventory, maintenance, schedules, and data pertaining to Let the Music Begin.
  • Practice self-conduct in a manner that reflects credit on The Salvation Army and encourages others to do the same.
  • Work with the officers and administration to schedule seasonal concerts, exhibitions and events including working on resourcing the Corps red kettle campaign.
  • Develop, recruit, and train leaders for the Corps music programs.
  • Work with the worship leaders to plan and implement music programs.
  • Oversee the purchasing and maintenance of the music library, instruments, and equipment.
  • Responsible for audio-visual technical and creative development, production, and training relative to all aspects of the music program and worship services.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of the music library, instruments, and equipment.
  • Lead Adult Bible study once weekly. Responsible for developing the direction, strategy, and weekly topics with the Corps Officers.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Under general supervision of the Corps Officers with considerable freedom to plan, schedule, and carry out responsibilities.

    This position supervises program participants, volunteers, and teachers.

    This individual relates to and interacts with a wide range of contacts both within and outside the Salvation Army. In these contacts they act as a representative of the Army and its mission.

    PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

    This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved as well as the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of accomplishing assigned goals.

    A 30, 60, and 90-day performance review will be conducted.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor's degree in music, or extensive experience teaching music.
    • Previous teaching experience preferred.
    • Bilingual (English/Korean) with an ability to communicate fluently verbally and in written form in Korean required.

    • A valid driver's license and the ability to pass the MVR check.

    • Must be a team player, self-starter, and follow through with assignments until completion.
    • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
    • An extensive knowledge of music performance and instruction.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally both in written and verbal forms.
    • A hands-on knowledge of how to effectively work with diversity in the workplace.
    • Must be knowledgeable about Salvation Army music and programs.
    • Bilingual in English and Korean a necessity for teaching, public relations, and fund-raising purposes.
    • This position has an essential role in fulfilling the full mission of The Salvation Army. Because of the integral nature of this responsibility, an understanding and promotion of The Salvation Army's mission, doctrine, and policies is required as well as active membership in a Salvation Army Corps.
    • Experience in Ministry, especially ministry in a cross-cultural and urban setting.

    POSITION LIMITATIONS

    • This individual will not commit Army resources that have not been allocated or approved.
    • This individual will not fail to keep the Corps Officers and other pertinent staff members informed on all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.
    • In conducting the duties of this position, this individual will not fail to accurately represent the mission or teachings of the Salvation Army.
    • This individual will not fail to adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • This position is required to do moderate physical work and must be able to lift 25 pounds.
    • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use instruments and equipment needed in a music program. They also frequently required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
    • The work environment for this position includes a program environment with a moderate to high noise level.
    • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients, and visitors; respect of others' property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors, and subordinates.
