Job Description:

Evaluate and provide music therapy program to assigned classrooms. Conduct music sessions which are appropriate to the developmental and social emotional level of the assigned students.

STANDARD 1: Professional Dutiesa. Implement a music curriculum based on students developmental needs.b. Provide music classes to assigned classes/individual students to foster music appreciation.c. Plan and provide direct and consultative services consistent with music therapy goals contained in students Individual Education Plan.d. Select and adapt music consistent with students age, culture and preferences as well as musical instruments and equipment consistent with strengths and needs of the student.e. Encourage students to take part in the session and support them by responding musically.f. Encourage student to use musical instruments, such as percussion and voice, to express themselves.g. Help students explore the world of sound and to create a musical language of their own.h. Improvise with music as a reaction to what the student is communicating.i. Design, construct, alter, and provide students with therapy to promote maximum independence.j. Lead and conduct school chorus.k. Assess student ability through formal and informal measures and.l. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the music therapy program and implement changes based on the findings.m. Consult with Speech Therapists to foster individual speech goals through music media.n. Consult with Behaviorists to reinforce desired behavioral goals through music media.o. Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level, interests, and needs of the students.p. Remain current in all areas of children/adolescent pop culture music trends.q. Demonstrate knowledge of job responsibilities.r. Develop and implement appropriate strategies for students to participate in music activities.s. Complete and maintain all required paperwork in a timely and appropriate manner.t. Maintain appropriate professional standards in interactions with families.u. Demonstrate the ability to recognize problems that occur and report them immediately.v. Demonstrate flexibility and is readily adaptable to change.w. Demonstrate effective time management.x. Implement behavior intervention plans during music sessions on individualized students.y. Complete quarterly lesson plans and goals for individual classrooms.z. Provide lunch coverage as needed.aa. Perform additional duties as requested by the Assistant Director or Director.STANDARD 2: Environment Managementa. Responsible for the health and safety of children during music classes.b. Maintain a healthy, safe and attractive environment.c. Oversee and manage classroom aides during push-in music classes.STANDARD 3: Professional Behaviora. Cooperate and conduct self in manner appropriate to school education setting.b. Adhere to program specific policies and procedures.c. Participate in program-wide activities and act in an appropriate mannerd. Participate in activities and seek support to enhance knowledge in areas pertinent to students in the school.STANDARD 4: Professional Developmenta. Attend and participate in required in-services and staff development in an appropriate manner.b. Attend and participate in supervision and implement recommendations appropriately.c. Collaborate with each students clinical service providers to ensure a comprehensive program for each student.STANDARD 5: Adhere to general policies of the organization/regulators including:a. Code of Ethical Conductb. Emergency/disaster preparedness protocols.c. Departmental in-service education program requirements.d. Fire/Safety prevention protocols.e. Policies and procedures (attendance, punctuality, appearance, professional attitude, etc.)f. Quality improvement activities.g. Job related self-development education activities.h. Infection control practices and procedures.i. Regulatory requirements and annual physical examination and Mantoux testing.STANDARD 6: Performs other related duties, as requireda. Demonstrate understanding of the needs of students and visitors for each specific age group.b. Address safety and psychological needs of the special age groups, as appropriate, in the performance of work activities.c. Address the needs of special groups, hearing impaired, physically challenged and various issues relating to the program and facility.d. Maintain child, family and employee confidentiality.e. Is consistently courteous and considerate in person, on the telephone, and in interactions with children and others such as family, visitors, venders, and other employees.f. Exhibit the At Your Service attitude, i.e. smiles, uses positive eye contact, and is friendly, open and approachable.g. Respond quickly to student and/or parent/guardians request, refers to appropriate member of the care team, if necessary, and informs supervisor of actions taken.h. Promote positive co-worker relationships, teamwork and cooperation.i. Work collaboratively and is respectful of others.j. Take individual responsibility for providing outstanding Service Quality.

BS or BA degree in Music Therapy required.Must be a certified Music Therapist with a minimum of one (1) year related experience working with the developmentally disabled population. Working knowledge of music curriculum/activities appropriate in a school setting. Must have a working knowledge of assessment and treatment activities appropriate for the developmental and social level of the assigned students.VI. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Physical aspects may include but are not limited to lifting and transferring of a student.
