Title: HJMS Musical Director (Part-Time / Seasonal) Description: Simsbury Public Schools invites applications for the position of Musical Director for Henry James Memorial Schools, grades 7-8, to join our skilled Performing Arts department. The Musical Director works under the supervision of the building administration and collaborates with the K-12 Director of Music and Performing Arts and members of the Performing Arts Department. The Director of the Musical oversees all aspects of the production. Qualifications: - B.A. (or higher) in Music /Performing Arts / Theatre Arts or a related field, preferred but not required, with appropriate training and experience
- Previous experience supporting theatrical and musical productions or serving on the production team
- Secondary teaching experience and a current teaching certificate are added benefits but are not required for this role.
- Must be available for after-school rehearsals and some weekends.
Responsibilities: - Oversees all aspects of the Musical Production
- Identifies potential musical(s) and collaborates with administration for final approval
- Ensures the purchases of rights to the show after the administration has approved it
- Coordinates with volunteers and professionals to support the production (i.e., music/assistant director, choreographer, production manager, technical director, etc.)
- Develops and maintains strong parent and community volunteer support and relationships for the performing arts program
- Cultivates relationships with various stakeholders to build support for the musical
- Casts all parts, sets rehearsal schedule, and attends & oversees rehearsals
- Works closely with the student tech crew/production team
- Secures venue, manages the budget, and advertises the production
- Performs other duties related to the production as assigned by the administration and Director of Music and Performing Arts
Compensation: $3234 stipend per BOE contract This position does not qualify for benefits.
