Job Title: Natatorium Assistant Coach - Club Diving (Part-Time)
Reports to: Swim/Dive Coordinator / Head Diving Coach
Dept/School: Athletics Department
Work Year: Part-Time, up to 20 hours/week
Salary: $20/hr
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide support to the Head Dive Coach by providing instruction and coaching divers to develop skills and ability to excel in diving.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Eighteen years or older
Current Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid
Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Coach Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of coaching techniques and procedures
Ability to instruct and supervise athletes
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of AAU Diving rules
Knowledge of USA Diving rules
Experience:
At least 3 years of experience as a club, interscholastic, or collegiate diving participant or coach
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instruction:
Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student athletes in diving.
Assist in all diving activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote the individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship as directed by Head Diving Coach.
Work with Head Diving Coach to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student athletes.
Program Management:
Assist in establishing performance criteria for competition and evaluate athlete's athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
Model performance criteria and physical movements required for performance of diving.
Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials and facilities.
Work with Head Diving Coach to schedule and cover competitions and plan season activities including practices, special events, and meets.
Other duties as assigned by Head Diving Coach, Natatorium Staff, or Athletic Department.
Student Management:
Accompany and supervise divers during diving competitions both at home and at away meets.
Follow directives from Head Dive Coach in applying and enforcing athlete discipline during contests, practices, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the Iron Horse Aquatics Handbook.
Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Communication:
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, athletes, and staff in conjunction with the Head Dive Coach.
Follows established chain of command when working through all situations
Demonstrate loyalty and positively promote the diving program to all stakeholders
Administration:
Assist in selection of equipment and instructional materials.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.
Assist in the process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment and maintain current inventory of all equipment and fixed assets within program.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
