Responsible To: Director of Student Support Services
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent Must meet at least one of the following three options: Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education. Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree. Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment, (1) knowledge of and the ability to assist instructing reading, writing, and mathematics, and (2), as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness. First aid and CPR certification. FBI and Washington State Patrol background check clearance Type II driving permit (willingness to get one if required for the job) Ability to move between schools Good organizational and communication skills. Clerical abilities, computer knowledge, ability to work independently. Experience working with diverse cultures, preferably local Native American Tribes. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Develop and implement an educational and cultural related program that meets the needs of Native American students in order to achieve state academic standards. Coordinate and implement programs and activities to increase awareness and instill pride of Native American history, traditions and culture. Establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents and school staff. Facilitate effective communication between Native American families and school staff. Assist school personnel with home-school relationships. Assist school staff in understanding cultural and environmental factors which impact Native American students. Collaboratively organize and facilitate parent advisory meetings with other staff members. Attend workshops, conferences and meetings as required. Prepare and maintain required documentation and files. Collect academic data and submit grant in a timely manner. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge and experience working with community social services and resource agencies. Knowledge and understanding of state/federal laws and regulations regarding education and social services. Effective human relations and communication skills, both verbally and in writing. Good language, grammar and math skills. Computer skills or ability to learn current computer programs. Ability to collect data and set up and maintain accurate record systems. Ability to attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion. Ability to organize and set priorities. Ability to work effectively under pressure and be flexible to meet deadlines. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Experience working with families with low economic status. Desired effective characteristics include: flexibility, enthusiasm, willingness to develop relationships and willingness to learn new skills. Willingness to make home visits. Working/Environmental Conditions: The Native Education Liaison is exposed to some outside climatic conditions during the winter and summer months. Noise level is considered low to moderate when working in facilities where children are present. The above conditions are not to a degree or length of time to cause marked discomfort or possible bodily injury to the employee.
Salary:$24.90 - $28.16 an hour
Benefits : State allocation towards dental, vision, medical insurance, retirement, 9 paid holidays, 10 sick leave days, 3 personal leave days. Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
