**Job Summary**

+ Plans, coordinates, and directly participates in developing, installing, maintaining, and managing natural areas, native plants, pollinator gardens, ecological restoration, and land stewardship to support teaching, research, public outreach, and conservation programs on the campus lands of the institution.

+ Works directly with faculty and student researchers in developing and implementing campus-as-lab projects.

+ Represents the department to faculty, staff, students, and the campus community regarding department sustainability initiatives, Tree Campus USA, and Bee Campus USA committees, and other landscape maintenance-related items.

+ Monitors and maintains Living Walls (green walls) in buildings on campus.

+ Inspects Stormwater Basins and provides vegetation maintenance recommendations.

+ Assists with landscape design review.

+ Serves as a resource for Horticulturists on plant health care.

+ Stays informed about new developments in landscape maintenance practices, such as new products, equipment, and cultural techniques.

+ Mixes and applies selective and non-selective herbicides or fertilizers in properly calibrated proportions.

+ Routinely uses various Grounds maintenance hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, blowers, rototillers, push spreaders, etc.

+ Organizes, coordinates, and carries out all preventative maintenance, repairs, storage, and training for all assigned equipment.

+ Regularly and independently move materials weighing up to 50 lbs from the floor to the vehicle and transport them to various areas on campus, including areas inside and outside of buildings, as well as on various types of terrain.

**Required Qualifications***

+ Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience in horticulture or natural areas management.

+ Minimum of two (2) years of experience planning, developing, installing, and maintaining native plantings, meadows, prairies, and other natural areas in a professional landscape maintenance setting.

+ Valid driver's license with less than six (6) points.

+ Ability to obtain upon employment, and maintain a DOT medical card.

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a Michigan Department of Agriculture Certified Pesticide Applicator License with categories 3a, 3b, and 6 within ninety (90) days of employment.

+ Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with all levels of a diverse organization.

+ Must be able to perform all duties within the classification, with or without a reasonable accommodation.

**Desired Qualifications***

+ Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or Environmental Science

+ Five (5) years of experience planning, developing, installing, and maintaining native plants, meadows, prairies, and other natural areas.
