In this role, you will work alongside our team of experts on a variety of projects to support our Renewable Energy, Oil & Gas, Civil, and private landowner clients. As a part of your responsibilities, you would be relied upon as a technical expert for multiple Projects, maintaining high standards, ensuring safety, compliance, and overall quality throughout the construction process.

This position is a mixed office and travel role based on client and/or project needs. This position can be remote for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity for an entry-to mid-level professional looking to advance their career!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct periodic site visits and use handheld device(s) to document current construction and environmental conditions.
  • Submit timely technical deliverables emphasizing Hydrology, Vegetation, Soils, and Vegetation Management.
  • Regular use of Microsoft Office Applications and ESRI software in all stages of work to prepare and disseminate internal and external information related to project scope.
  • Represent KerTec in a professional manner by working alongside clients, colleagues, and industry personnel, in an office and construction setting.
  • Document efficacy of Best Management Practice/Erosion Control Devices on construction site(s) in accordance with relevant environmental regulations and permits.
  • Ensure compliance with project and KerTec safe work practices, including but not limited to various training courses.
  • Respond to client and/or potential client requests via phone or email.
  • Maintain awareness of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to construction inspections regarding vegetation, soils, and stabilization.

Key Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong field-focused background in interpreting ecological principles in natural and constructed environments.
  • Experienced technical writer and scientific communicator, highly proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel to provide simple, cohesive, salient, and aesthetically pleasing deliverables.
  • Detail-oriented and methodical with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Skilled in ESRI software applications, with demonstrated abilities to source, digitize, edit, attribute, publish, and maintain data quality of spatial data.
  • Comfortable working on active construction sites, including: standing, sitting, walking, bending, squatting, or kneeling while wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Willingness to work outdoors, which may include adverse weather conditions, rugged terrain, varying temperatures, excessive noise levels, wildlife, or other potential hazards.
  • Willingness to learn and be nimble with our team to better yourself and the industries we serve.
  • Willingness to sit for extended periods of time, either in an office setting or within a vehicle during inspections or travel to/from job site(s).
  • Familiar with construction management principles and practices.
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction plans/drawings.
  • Self-motivated, organized, with strong time management skills.
  • The candidate must be based within a one-hour drive of a major airport and have a valid driver's license.
  • Collaborative individual who is a team-player, focused on achieving good results for KerTec and clients, but able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Skills, Education, and additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of science in Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant and Environmental Sciences, Weed Science, Environmental Science, Rangeland Resources, Ecology, Water Resources, Hydrology, Geology, or other science-related field of study.
  • Experience with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), appropriate implementation, and evaluations. Obtains or willing to obtain a Qualified SWPPP and QCIS certificate within one month of employment.
  • Minimum of one year of experience conducting environmental assessments, stormwater inspections, or other applicable erosion control evaluations.
  • Minimum of one year of field experience in Agriculture and/or Construction projects of 100 acres or more.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend work; travel as required supporting project scope (i.e., field work to deliverables).
  • Experience with power sector projects.
  • Candidate has access to personal computer.

Job Type: Full-time, hourly

Expected hours: Varies from 32 – 55 (up to 65) per week

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
