Essential Duties

  • Conduct intake interviews assessing strengths, resources and needs of clients at the Marian House
  • Treat each client with dignity and respect, listen to their concerns, and guide them appropriately to the next best step for them.
  • Utilize techniques of Motivational Interviewing to elicit what is important to the client, and to help them overcome barriers to pursuing their goals.
  • Embrace best practices of trauma-informed, strengths-based, client-driven care.
  • Ensure appropriate data collection, stewardship, and reporting as appropriate for quality care, program transparency, and process improvement.
  • Ensure confidentiality of client information.
  • Ensure compliance with standard operating procedures for Income and Relief Services.
  • Provide needed documentation for grant reports.
  • Maintain contacts and relationships with provider organizations to which clients are referred.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining an accurate list of referral sources.
  • Steward resources for financial assistance and any other direct assistance such as bus passes, gas cards, clothing or ID vouchers, etc. with care, providing appropriate documentation and recording such assistance appropriately.

Work Environment

  • A majority of the assigned duties are performed in an office environment.
  • Interacting with vulnerable and at risk populations introduces stressors including but not limited to erratic or volatile behaviors or outbursts and potential for secondary trauma from listening to other people's financial and personal problems.

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma/equivalent. Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, social work, or other area of human services preferred
  • Experience working with economically disadvantaged and diverse populations who experience barriers to stability

Competencies

  • Ability to work effectively with people representing a diverse range of socioeconomic levels while being sensitive to cultural differences.
  • Ability to work with people in crisis with a calm and positive attitude.
  • Ability to use sound judgment within defined policies and procedures to determine appropriate action.
  • Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Bilingual Spanish-English a plus

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to apply culturally appropriate skills in interactions with clients, co-workers, volunteers, partner agencies, and other community members.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), problem solving, listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to form and maintain positive work relationships.
  • Understanding of how the work of Catholic Charities upholds catholic social teaching and willingness to represent Catholic Charities within agency guidelines.
  • Ability and willingness to work within the established structure of Catholic Charities.
  • Occasional evenings and weekends are required to accommodate meetings and special events.

Compensation

  • The salary range for this position is $18.00-$19.00 per hour. Salary is determined based on the applicant's incoming skills and experience, and the budget at time of hiring.

Position Classification & Schedule

  • Nonexempt
  • Full Time: 40 hours per week
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday
  • Occasional evenings and weekends are required to accommodate meetings, and special events.
