Good Samaritan University Hospital (GSUH) is a 437-bed teaching hospital and a member of Catholic Health (CH). Located approximately 40 miles from the heart of New York City, in West Islip, Long Island New York, it is surrounded by a rich culture and history offering a diverse palette of attractions and points of interests. Good Samaritan with almost 900 physicians on staff, and an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCoT) Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, cares for nearly 950,000 patients annually across the south shore of Long Island.

GSUH provides care to the largest population of children on the South Shore of Long Island. The Pediatric Emergency Department, staffed by pediatricians and pediatric emergency medicine fellowship trained physicians, cares for over 20,000 visits per year. We offer Suffolk County's only free standing Center for Pediatric Specialty Care with satellite centers open in Nassau County and additional expansion planned. Catholic Health's children's program provide services for the smallest patients through our Level III Neonatology Unit through adulthood. The Pediatric Specialty Center has the entire gamut of pediatric specialists under one roof including: gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, genetics, pulmonology, hematology, infectious diseases, developmental and nephrology. The hospital supports a four (4) bedded pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), a sixteen bedded (16) bedded Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit and a twenty six (26) bedded pediatric unit.

In addition to the multiple pediatric specialists and pediatric surgical specialties supporting a robust inpatient unit, PICU and level III NICU, Good Samaritan additionally trains residents within their accredited pediatric residency training program and fellows in pediatric emergency medicine. This allows us to foster a team environment that is focused on evidence-based practice, continued learning and exceptional quality of care.

GSUH is an American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma (ACSCoT) Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, a Level I Adult Trauma Center, a Joint Commission accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Bariatric Center of Excellence, an ACS Commission on Cancer accredited hospital with a Cancer Institute, and a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery. The hospitals nursing team is one of only 8% of hospitals nationwide to have achieved ANCC Magnet Recognition®, demonstrating the highest nursing standards and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.The hospital supports seven (7) closed intensive care units including: a cardiothoracic ICU, cardiac care unit, a neuroscience ICU, a pediatric ICU, a neonatal ICU, a surgical ICU, and a medical ICU.GSUH has an open heart program, The Saint Francis Heart Center at GSUH. There are residency programs in: emergency medicine, family practice, podiatry, pediatrics and obstetrics and gynecology.The hospital is currently undergoing a major capital modernization project with a new six floor patient care pavilion, scheduled to be completed in 2025. Position Overview:

As a Neonatologist, you will play a crucial role in the care and management of high-risk newborns in our Level three (3) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive medical care, support families, and contribute to the ongoing education of residents and medical students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality medical care to newborns with complex medical conditions.
  • Collaborate with a team of pediatricians, nurses, and specialists to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Conduct consultations for high-risk deliveries and manage infants requiring intensive care.
  • Participate in neonatal resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill infants.
  • Educate and support families regarding their newborn's condition and care plan.
  • Engage in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives to advance neonatal care.
  • Participate in teaching activities for residents and medical students.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree with completion of an accredited Neonatology fellowship.
  • Board Certified or board-eligible in Neonatology.
  • Active New York state medical license.
  • Strong clinical skills and a commitment to high-quality patient care.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
