Salary: $41.37 - $53.78 Hourly Location : West Olive, MI Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 27270001 Department: Innovation and Technology Opening Date: 11/08/2024 Closing Date: 11/29/2024 5:00 PM Eastern FLSA: Determined by Position Bargaining Unit: Unclassified Job Description Under the general direction of the Manager of Technical Infrastructure, performs networking and server administration. Configures and maintains Servers, Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN) and other network communications solutions for County departments and external customers. Installs and troubleshoots hardware, software, and network systems to provide secure, high performance, and high availability of servers and networks. This is a full-time benefitted position working out of the Fillmore Complex, in West Olive, Michigan. Typical business hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-5:00PM. Essential Job Functions The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot switches, routers, firewalls, VPN, WLAN, and other networking equipment/services
  • Configure and manage Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, Windows/Linux OS servers, DNS Proxy, network access controls, Network VMWare/Hyper-V virtual servers and services
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Office 365, Azure AD, VoIP, Cloud applications and storage services
  • Provide support to end-users and assist staff in problem resolution.
  • Manage daily back-up and replication of network servers and perform restores.
  • Stay abreast of current technology and security issues.
  • Implement improvements in infrastructure, develop and maintain system documentations, policy/guidelines, and training materials.
  • Train end-users on system usage.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate endpoint security and patch management systems, ensuring up-to-date virus/malware protection, endpoint management, data encryption, VPN, SIEM log review, security compliance, and updates of all workstations/servers.
  • Implements County-wide information security systems: antivirus, firewalls, mail and web Filters, Data Encryption, Performs and documents routine audits of systems and software.
  • Required Education, Training and Experience Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in computer science, computer engineering, information technology, or closely related field combined with two years of progressively responsible experience in the design, development, installation, and administration of multi-platform enterprise networks; or an equivalent combination of education/certifications and/or experience. Preferred Experience: Windows Servers, Active Directory, VMWare, Virtual Storage Area Networks (vSAN), CISCO Networking Equipment, VoIP, and Hyperconverged Infrastructure. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Certification as a Network Engineer by one or more networking technology vendors preferred. CCNA or certified by 1 year after hire date. Certification in Server Administration preferred. Valid Michigan Driver's License. Additional Requirements and InformationRequired Knowledge and skills:
  • Understand the theory of network design and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of information security and systems including Firewalls, Web Filters, E-Mail Filters, Intrusion Detection, Access Controls, Risk Assessment. etc.
  • Working knowledge of servers, switches, circuits, and internet connectivity, and other related technologies including Windows Server, Linux, Active Directory, virtualization, encryption, backup technologies, and replication.
  • Working knowledge of wiring, copper and fiber optics cable, circuits, grounding, electrical, physical security, power requirements, and HVAC requirements for a large enterprise network and the components thereof. Along with a working knowledge of electrical and electronic technology.
  • Ability to read blueprints, electrical and low voltage drawings and designs, diagrams and other specifications.
  • Working knowledge of project planning, estimating and management principles and practices.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA occupational health and safety rules, regulations and requirements.
  • Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills along with the ability to prioritize the workload and maintain project schedules.
  • NOTE: Must be able and available to provide emergency responses to network failures and security breaches outside of normal working hours , as required to protect the security and integrity of County data and operating systems and maintain critical County operations. Physical Requirements:
  • Must have sufficient visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, to visually align components of hardware and peripherals.
  • Must have sufficient visual color discrimination to properly match color-coded pairs of electrical wires.
  • Must be able to descend to and ascend from floor and ground level to repair cables and hardware features located at or near ground/floor level.
  • Must be able to work with arms extended above shoulder to repair or replace cables and other infrastructure components mounted at or above shoulder height.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders in order to access cables located in ceilings.
  • Must have sufficient manual strength and dexterity to use small hand tools used in repair of hardware and peripherals.
  • Must be able to lift and move equipment and materials weighing up to 35 lbs with or without mechanical or other assistance.
  • Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in a normal office environment, but may entail exposure to inks and electrical and mechanical hazards while diagnosing and hardware and peripherals.
