Essential Functions:

Network Planning:

  • Network Architecture: Design scalable, secure, and efficient network architectures to meet organizational needs.
  • Capacity Planning: Analyze current and future network traffic to ensure the infrastructure can handle growth.
  • Technology Evaluation: Assess and recommend hardware and software solutions.

Network Implementation and Configuration:

  • Hardware Setup: Install routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and other network devices.
  • Configuration: Configure devices and services like VPNs, VLANs, load balancers, and QoS settings.
  • Integration: Seamlessly integrate new systems into existing networks.

Network Maintenance and Optimization:

  • Performance Monitoring: Use tools to monitor and analyze network performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
  • Optimization: Improve network efficiency and reliability through tuning and updates.
  • Documentation: Maintain updated network diagrams and technical documentation.

Troubleshooting and Support:

  • Issue Resolution: Diagnose and resolve network-related problems, from connectivity issues to hardware failures.
  • Incident Response: Respond to network outages or security breaches with minimal downtime.
  • User Support: Assist end-users and teams in resolving connectivity or access issues.

Security Management:

  • Firewall Management: Configure and maintain firewalls to protect the network.
  • Access Control: Implement policies for user and device authentication.
  • Threat Mitigation: Monitor for and defend against security threats like DDoS attacks, malware, and intrusions.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with other IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to align on goals and implement solutions.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training to team members and support staff on network tools and protocols.

Emerging Technology and Continuous Learning:

  • Research and Development: Stay updated on the latest technologies (e.g., SD-WAN, 5G, IoT) and trends.
  • Skill Enhancement: Pursue certifications and training (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, AWS).

Qualifications:

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in network administration or a related role.
  • Knowledge of Palo Alto products (firewall, Panorama, Global Protect) and Juniper products (switches, MIST) is required.
  • Knowledge of network troubleshooting, performance optimization, and security protocols, including hands-on experience with firewalls, routers, switches, and VoIP systems.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools.

Background Checks:

  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times

Physical and Travel Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Hybrid work environment requiring a minimum of 3 days onsite.
  • Travel between campuses is required from time to time.
  • This position occasionally requires lifting objects (up to 25 pounds).
  • This position may require sitting for long periods, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping and concentrating.
  • Local and in-state travel required. Some out-of-state travel may be required.
