Network Engineer New York City, NY Contract to Hire $55 to $60 per hour with a conversion salary of $115K to $125K annually DOE SUMMARY: Network Engineer We are seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer/Technician to support our Network Infrastructure and Telecommunications team in upgrading and implementing wireless solutions, particularly Meraki and Cisco products. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in managing Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, VoIP devices, and various network protocols. This position demands not only technical expertise but also the ability to work independently while performing fieldwork. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Network Collaboration and Support: Work alongside the Network Infrastructure and Telecommunications team leader to enhance network systems, implement wireless solutions (Meraki and Cisco), and provide ongoing support and troubleshooting. 2. Hardware Management: Handle Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, Cisco VoIP hardware, and manage the deployment process, including equipment inventory, racking, and cable connections. 3. Protocol Implementation: Apply various networking protocols such as EIGRP, BGP, TCP/IP, and DNS across Layer 2 and Layer 3 switches. 4. Security Deployment: Implement security measures, including firewalls, IPSec, RADIUS, and PKI certificates, to protect the network. 5. LAN Design and Upgrades: Design and upgrade LANs with a focus on integrating legacy equipment while supporting VoIP deployment. 6. Network Monitoring and Assessment: Utilize management tools (e.g., Wireshark, NetFlow) for network performance monitoring and conduct security assessments, providing design recommendations based on Cisco best practices. REQUIRED SKILLS
- Minimum of 12 years of experience in an IT network engineering/technician role.
- Active CCNA certification.
- Strong understanding of complex Routing & Switching environments.
- Proven experience with Meraki, Firewalls, DNA, and Client technologies.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with physical tasks related to network installation and cabling.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Support hybrid weekly work schedule (3 days on-site / 2 days remote).
BONUS SKILLS
- Familiarity with Cisco WLAN and Client systems.
- Knowledge of Meraki Wi-Fi deployments, VPN Certificates, and wireless routers.
- Understanding of ITIL processes, particularly Incident Management, Change Management, and Problem Management.
