Please Note: This is a 1099/contractor position. The number of hours worked each week will fluctuate but will generally be part-time. The contractor will have the flexibility to set their own hours; however, the work will need to be completed both during and outside of regular business hours.
Pay Rate:
The pay rate for this position is $90 to $110 per hour. Please note that the pay rate information is a general guideline only. Position Location Specifics:
The selected candidate must live within a 60-minute commute range, or approximately so, of Portsmouth, NH. The candidate must be able to work on-site as needed at the client location.

About the Role:
This position falls under the umbrella of Sawdey's Managed Services Division (MSD). Sawdey MSD is a full-service Managed Service Provider (MSP)/Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) providing IT and/or cybersecurity services to a variety of different clients (defense/government contractors, municipalities, non-profits, commercial organizations, etc.).
The Network Engineer, performing hybrid work in Portsmouth NH, will be executing restructuring of network infrastructure at physical locations. This position will evaluate, design, and construct the new networks in accordance with current and future requirements. Working with IT management, this position will plan, coordinate, and deploy the new IT network infrastructure and network design.
Additional Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited To:
- Working in conjunction with the client CIO and Sawdey MSD team members, will build out new redundant network infrastructure using SonicWALL and Unifi gear.
- Perform network upgrades on both network hardware and software.
- Install and configure various network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and other network appliances.
- Responsible for creating and documenting network topology diagrams.
- Update location IP addresses and ensure continued functionality.
- Provide support and troubleshooting to resolve network related issues as changes are made.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding policies, and procedures, and proprietary information.
- Provide quality support and maintain a professional relationship with peers, management, other staff, and members through cooperation, mutual trust, and respect.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Experience Requirements:
- Five (5) to eight (8) years' experience as a Network Engineer.
- Accomplished with the following network hardware/software, technologies, and protocols:
- SonicWALL Firewalls and Unifi UDM and Enterprise Gateways
- Unifi series Layer 2/3 switches
- Zscaler ZIA and ZPA
- Palo Alto Firewalls
- Routing and switching protocols / technologies: SD-WAN, BGP, VPN, VLANS, STP, Radius, QoS, 802.1x
- Accomplished with the following WAN Technologies:
- FirstLight Fiber
- DarkFiber
- In-depth knowledge of dynamic routing protocols with emphasis on BGP.
- Deep understanding of enterprise network & datacenter operations.
- Ability to design redundant and scalable network solutions for datacenter, voice, WAN, and LAN networks.
- Full understanding of SD WAN solutions and their deployments.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex routing and switching issues in both a LAN / WAN environment.
- Experience with enterprise network & datacenter operations.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Information Systems or equivalent preferred.
Certificate, License, and Registration Requirements:
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) preferred.
Other Required Skills & Abilities:
- Must be able to effectively communicate with customer and fulfill all duties and responsibilities as listed in the contract.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office suite including, but not limited to: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to communicate and collaborate with corporate employees, clients, and colleagues in a professional, respectful, and timely manner.
- Must be self-motivated and self-directed with the ability to work with minimal direction and oversite.
- Must have project communication and planning skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to pay very close attention to detail.
- Must be able to use personal smartphone device on an as-needed basis to perform job-related tasks such as supporting an on-call rotation, accessing Microsoft Teams and Outlook, and enabling/signing into multi-factor authentication (MFA) applications.
- Please Note: Incoming and Outgoing calls are made via an assigned extension in Microsoft Teams desktop. There is no requirement to use a personal smartphone device to support phone calls.
Background Check Requirements:
Must be able to pass a favorable Background Check.
US Citizenship Requirements:
To comply with CMMC requirements, as well as U.S. Government contracts, U.S. citizenship is required.
