- The successful candidate will be responsible for the advanced configuration and operating system upgrades of carrier-class Cisco, Juniper and Nokia equipment that tie together a complex, multivendor nationwide data network.
- The Engineer will also be responsible for working on up-and-coming virtualization technologies in the Pacific and North Central Markets.
- They will assist with and perform implementation responsibilities for one or more COINs and work closely with the Implementation and Engineering teams to carry out our strategic technology goals and transition from VXLAN to the eNSE platform.
- This new network leverages virtualization and software defined networking to transform how we provide products and services while maintaining our position as the industry leader.is seeking a motivated and driven engineering professional who will assume responsibilities for engineering IP networking build projects and work closely with the Capacity Planning, Design and Operations teams to implement our strategic technology goals.
- Work 3rd shift, 8-hours, 5-day work weeks (Monday-Friday mornings)
- Plan, prioritize, and schedule maintenance window changes with many groups both inside and outside the office with minimum supervision during the daytime and then implement these changes during scheduled maintenance windows while adhering to corporate standards.
- You will need hands-on experience configuring routers, switches and related network equipment. Preferably: Cisco Carrier Routing Systems (CRS), Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS), ASR 9K, ISR 3945, Nexus 3K, 7K, 9K, Juniper MX-480, MX-960. Operating Systems: IOS, XR-IOS, NX-OS, JunOS. Implement configuration changes for the directional Intelligent Edge Networks.
- These include but are not limited to: SAP eNSE fabric, Access eNSE fabric, EPC element migration to eNSE, ISP peering routers, VCP Edge connectivity, eNSE connectivity to MSE and UT
- Leveraging automation tools like Python, NSO, DCNM, VTS, Pronghorn and Nuage to complete the above projects.
- Transport circuit turn up/troubleshooting
- Turn up new and disconnect older circuits of varying bandwidths using procedures written by both an internal engineering group and outside vendors.
- The work is done in parallel with other internal groups.
- Work remotely with local operation team members throughout the United States to deploy and troubleshot newly installed racked routers and switches into data center locations
- Work independently with minimum supervision and meet aggressive deployment dates and timelines
- Ability to quickly adapt and learn new tasks and processes around deploying new routers and switches in a remote setting
- Engineering the network configuration for the onboarding of private cloud tenants
- Solid understanding of Networking specific technologies: IPV6, L2VPN, L3VPN, OSPFv3, MPBGP, QOS/Traffic Engineering, MPLS (LDP & TDP) and VRFs
- Perform BAU maintenance work such as ACL updates and software upgrades on border leafs, access leafs, and spines on the eNSE fabric.
- Utilize network monitoring tools, during maintenance windows, to ensure that all monitored network equipment is functioning in accordance with company standards and policies, both before and after changes are made.
- Be proficient with network configuration compare tools such as Ultracompare, Diff Checker, Notepad ++.
- Take accountability to review MOPs and automated dry-run outputs with the engineering team before any scheduled change to ensure accuracy.
- Required to attend daytime MOP review and team/project synch meetings.
- Regularly assist team members in an overwatch role during cutovers, migrations, and upgrades through network monitoring tools to ensure customer service interruptions do not occur.
- Engage in both intra and interdepartmental communication to plan, schedule, prioritize, and prepare for maintenance window activities.
- Enter all night changes into the change management database Kirke and ensure all notifications are approved prior to maintenance window activities.
- Work closely with local onsite Network Assurance team to validate no customer impacts were sustained to our customers.
- All pre/post configuration/traffic checks will need to be performed on each device being worked on.
MUST HAVE SKILLS (Most Important):
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience

- Must possess extensive knowledge of Layer 1 troubleshooting for copper and fiber cabling including Cat5/6 copper cabling and fiber types SC, LC, FC, MPO, MOP creation and implementation
- Must have in depth knowledge and expert comprehension of Command Line Interface (CLI) commands for Nokia 7750/7706/7250, Cisco 55A1,5504, 5508, 9508, CRS-16, Nexus 3k/5k/7K/9K (IOS, XE, XR, NX-OS)
- Experience with IP Layer 1-3 for Edge Networks and strong knowledge of MPLS
- Hands on experience with virtualization of networks and implementing updates and changes on working devices
- Ability to follow and implement detailed engineering design documents
- The ability to articulate and explain your work and self through email and phone.
- Knowledgeable in Layer 1 remote connectivity to network devices via console and Ethernet, copper (CAT5/6) and SC,LC,MPO fiber cabling
- Ability to work closely with others, manage the workload you are assigned, and schedule work/project manage tasks with other installation teams and groups
- Ability to clearly communicate ideas in order to lead phone calls to implement changes and thoroughly test for any residual issues afterwards during maintenance window hours.
- Need to be comfortable working on the phone and troubleshooting with local support personnel to correct OBM (Out of Band Management) and cabling issues.
- Functional knowledge of TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6)
- They must have the ability to follow and implement detailed engineering design documents and join team/project calls throughout the day in various US time zones and have the ability to convey status and work updates
- Administrative skills to track and update emails, tickets, projects, and work logs.
- Knowledge of spine and leaf fabric networking
- Working knowledge of VXLAN and BGEthernet/fiber P

DESIRED SKILLS:
- A bachelor's degree.
- CCNA or CCNP certifications.
- Hands on experience with Nokia SR-OS devices.
- Experience with virtualization technology in a corporate environment.
- Knowledge of Cloud Computing (VMWare, Openstack, AWS, Azure, or similar). Some experience with data center and cloud technologies such as Linux OS, VMware, Open-Stack, Ansible, Chef/Puppet and/or Docker.
- Five or more years of experience that involved working on large, complex data networks.
- Experience working with data networking gear and troubleshooting data networking problems involving: TCP/IP, BGP, MP-BGP, OSPF, MPLS, IPv4, IPv6, L2VPN, L3VPN, SIP, and other advanced LAN/WAN technologies and concepts.
- Experience with planning for multiple technical projects AND implementing them by working with people using multiple lines of communications (phone, e-mail, face to face, etc.) in order to deliver them on time.
- Good understanding of 3G and 4G call flow.
