About GW MFA MFA physicians provide comprehensive patient care, offering one practice for the whole person with 52 medical and surgical specialties. As members of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences faculty, MFA providers are teachers and mentors for medical students, residents, fellows, and researchers preserving the rich tradition of academics, research, and healing. In addition to maintaining a closely integrated alliance with The George Washington University and The George Washington University Hospital (GWUH) which is separately owned and operated by Universal Health Services (UHS), the GW MFA has active referring relationships with 12 area hospitals. The GW MFA's leading healthcare presence in the DC metro region is complemented by a network of community-based practices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Given its geographic location in central NW Washington, DC, and proximity to more than 175 resident embassies, the MFA continues to evolve its international clinical outreach. Position Summary MFA IS&T is seeking a skilled Network Engineer to join our Infra Ops team, reporting to the team manager. The ideal candidate must excel in networking implementation and offer 24x7 operational support when necessary. This role is pivotal in enhancing MFA's medical enterprise networking. The Network Engineer should be proficient in switching, routing, LAN, and WAN technologies, with expertise in firewalling, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Responsibilities include managing datacenter, main medical facilities, and remote site networks, utilizing Cisco Nexus/Catalyst switches, Palo Alto and Cisco ASA firewalls, and WAN technologies like eBGP/IGMP. Preferred qualifications include cloud networking experience in Azure or AWS, familiarity with IPSec tunnels, PPTP, STS, transit gateways, VPCs, cloud routing, and subnetting. Healthcare IT experience is strongly preferred, with familiarity with Epic's EMR platform a plus. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Successful performance in this role requires proficiency in each essential duty. Additional responsibilities may also be assigned. - Troubleshoot layer 1/2/3 networking issues for end users, stakeholders, and customers. - Respond to networking problems such as VLAN misconfigurations and performance bottlenecks. - Review ongoing networking operations and support engineering projects, emphasizing monitoring and maintenance. - Align networking strategies with broader business goals, including gear upgrades and datacenter hardware implementation. - Assess WAN and LAN resilience, focusing on technologies like virtual port channels and eBGP. - Configure wireless networks, covering SSID channels, VLANs, DHCP servers, and SDWAN settings. - Provide onsite datacenter support, including wiring, switching gear, firewalls, and VPN appliances. - Plan and implement scalable cloud-based networking solutions. - Travel to remote sites or offsite data centers as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education - Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or 5 years of industry equivalent experience - CCNA or CCIE Cisco strongly desired - CCNP Security strongly desired - Cloud certification (AWS, Azure, GCP) a plus - CompTIA Network+ a plus - Other Vendor Specific certifications such as Palo Alto, Juniper, or SolarWinds a plus Experience - Strong experience in hybrid or native cloud environments. - Strong experience in Network Engineering. - Strong experience in operations supporting break/fix requests. - Prefer a minimum of 7 years upgrading, replacing, or decommissioning networking hardware. - 5 years with Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, or ASA products. - Experience supporting network operations in a NOC-like setting. - Strong Storage Area Network expertise. - Proficiency in network administration fundamentals (CCNA level or equivalent). - Linux proficiency preferred. - At least three years of scripting and programming experience (PowerShell, Windows Batch, Linux BASH, Python, Java, VB, etc.). - Strong experience with cloud system migrations & hybrid infrastructure preferred. - Experience in IT operations and incident response. - Familiarity with Office 365 preferred. - Some experience with databases (SQL) and database administration preferred. - Troubleshooting technical issues in systems, software, network, and security. - Healthcare IT experience strongly preferred. - Strongly desired: Experience with Epic in a Healthcare IT environment. Physical Requirements - Walk, stand, sit, and reach outward for long periods of time in an office setting. - Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull over 100 lbs. as part of the role. - Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment. - Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.
