Job Description:
Description The Network Field Operations Technician is responsible for installation, maintenance, and Tier 1 repair of all Network Facilities. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong technical skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Serves customers by installing and servicing systems and products.RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Install, terminate, splice, and test fiber optic cables and related equipment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of fiber optic networks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Works with Network Engineering and Network Operation Field Engineers on any equipment or facility needs for maintaining service or new installations.
  • Serves existing and future accounts by analyzing work orders, planning daily travel schedules, investigating complaints, conducting tests, and resolving problems.
  • Establishes service by studying system requirements, ordering and gathering components and parts, completing installation, and performing acceptance tests.
  • Travel to customer locations throughout the Dobson Fiber service area on a continuous day-to-day basis.
  • Manages warehouse inventory for all Network Operations Facilities
  • Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine the best installation methods and materials.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technicians to complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Document and report on all work performed, including detailed records of installations, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Respond to emergency repair requests and outages as needed, including outside of regular business hours.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in fiber optic technology and industry best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including engineering, sales, and customer support, to coordinate efforts and achieve organizational goals.
  • Test cable with optical test equipment such as OTDR, power meter, fiber identifier, and fiber scope to troubleshoot and repair fiber
  • Ability to assist training employees on proper techniques and standards for troubleshooting and installation of services.
  • Be able to perform splicing duties and best practices to be able to navigate splice cases and make repair splices during network and customer outages and new service installations or upgrades.
  • Ability to read and understand documentation and designs related to splicing and construction.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in fiber optics, telecommunications, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in fiber optic installation, maintenance, and repair.Proficiency with fiber optic testing and splicing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and fiber optic cable construction.
  • Trouble-shoot issues remotely utilizing provided software and an internet connection.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and documentation.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to various job sites as required.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with an ability to establish priorities and proceed with objectives with little supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSDepending on the assigned area, usually outdoor, warehouse, or construction environment with frequent sitting, walking, and standing, and occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and balancing. Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination enables the use of machinery and equipment. Oral and auditory capacity enables interpersonal communication and communication through automated devices like the telephone. Physical stamina to handle the long hours of performing strenuous work during the day in hot or cold weather. The noise level in the work environment ranges from normal office levels to loud levels due to equipment and machinery use.SAFETY EXPECTATIONSEach employee is responsible for his/her own safety. No task should be completed unless it can be completed safely. Employees will:
  • Comply with all company safety programs, rules, regulations, procedures, and instructions applicable to his/her own actions and conduct.
  • Refrain from any unsafe act that might endanger him/herself or fellow workers.
  • Obey all posted company, state, and federal hazard and traffic safety signs.
  • Use all safety devices and personal protective equipment provided for their protection.
  • Report all hazards, incidents, and near-miss occurrences to their immediate supervisor or Director of Safety within 2 hours, even if no injury or property damage occurred.
  • Promptly report all injuries and suspected work-related illnesses, however slight, to his/her immediate supervisor or Director of Safety.
  • Employees who drive company vehicles must possess a valid and appropriate driver's license for driving the vehicle, and employees who operate company equipment must be trained and authorized.
  • Employees operating company vehicles and equipment must comply with state and federal laws and regulations. Seat belt use is required while operating any company vehicle or equipment.
  • Texting while driving is prohibited by Dobson Fiber policy and State Law.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings, training sessions, and surveys as requested and provide input into improving safety.
  • Notify your supervisor or Human Resources immediately of any change in physical or mental condition or use of prescription drugs or illegal drugs that would affect the employee's job performance or the safety of him/herself or others.
  • Working under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited at any company facility, workplace, worksite, or when operating any company vehicle or equipment. Any employee, contractor, or subcontractor who works or reports to work under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs will be subject to disciplinary action, including possible termination of employment or loss of contract.
  • Notify the Human Resources Director within five days of serious driving, drug/alcohol, or criminal convictions.
  • Be a safe worker on and off the job.
  • Help coworkers do their job safely.
