Description The Network Infrastructure Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, management, and maintenance of Samford University's network infrastructure. This role involves working on both wired and wireless networking environments, with a focus on enhancing network performance, security, and scalability. The Network Infrastructure Manager will also take ownership of advanced network configurations, including firewall administration, ensuring optimal network operations and high availability. This is an on-site position reporting to the Director of Network, Systems, and Infrastructure. Job Duties
- Design, implement, and manage wired and wireless network infrastructure. (including Cisco networking technologies)
- Administer and configure networking devices such as routers, switches, and firewalls (including Palo Alto firewalls).
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues using diagnostic tools such as packet sniffers and performance monitors.
- Ensure network security by implementing access control, VPNs, and firewall policies.
- Monitor network performance, ensuring high availability and reliability of services.
- Collaborate with internal teams to design and implement network enhancements and upgrades.
- Conduct regular network performance assessments, making recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain up-to-date network documentation, including topology diagrams and device configurations.
- Coordinate with vendors for network-related procurements, installations, and maintenance.
- Provide support for network-related aspects of data center operations and disaster recovery plans.
- Stay current on networking trends and technologies, applying best practices to Samford's environment.
- Act as a point of escalation for complex networking issues from other teams.
Qualifications Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in network design, administration, and troubleshooting.
- Alternative Path: AA/AS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in network design, administration, and troubleshooting.
Experience:
- Proficiency with network management tools, firewalls, and networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, etc.).
- Strong understanding of security best practices in a networking environment.
- Knowledge and support of wireless environments and wireless security technologies.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of OS/NOS/IOS/NX-OS.
- NOC or high-volume call-center experience.
- Work experience with enterprise or carrier-class datacenter environments.
- Expert knowledge and support of Cisco routers and switches.
- Expert knowledge of Palo Alto firewall technology.
- Have or obtain CCNA/CCNP or equivalent industry certification within six (6) months.
