Position Type: SUPERVISORY Date Posted: 10/2/2024 Location: Forest View Educational Center Date Available: ASAP Closing Date: Until Filled The Network Operations Specialist assists the Director of Instructional Technology & Technology Services in implementing the overall data connectivity requirements for the district. The Network Operations Specialist maintains and upgrades the District 214 local and wide area networking facility at Forest View Educational Center. The Network Operations Specialist works closely with other district technology staff in maintaining the network services throughout the district. Specific Duties:
- Implements and maintains the equipment necessary to provide District 214 with connectivity for IP protocols between Forest View and the six high schools, and high-speed IP connectivity between Forest View and the Internet. Advises and assists the Director of Instructional Technology & Technology Services in the incorporation of cable and wireless technologies into this plan.
- Implements and maintains the equipment necessary to provide secure remote access to district resources.
- Implements and maintains the equipment necessary to provide Local Area Networking in each of the buildings including Ethernet, FDDI and other technologies.
- Assists the buildings' technology staff in implementation and management of the Local Area Networks and coordinates the expansion of Local Area Networks for multiple machines in labs and libraries for all the buildings.
- Implements and maintains the District 214 Internet Services facility, including management of UNIX Internet servers and DNS. Coordinates and manages the distribution of IP addresses throughout the District.
- Creates and manages District 214 Internet services.
- Coordinates, supervises, and assists Internet content developers in the incorporation of security, management, administration, and content systems into the District 214 Internet Services facility.
- Coordinates with and assists the Systems Software Supervisor in the management and maintenance of the FVEC, Vanguard and FVAS computers and LAN.
- Maintains and supports servers and cloud infrastructure at the Forest View Educational Center.
- Supports, recommends and enforces Information Security Policies.
- Maintains and manages the VoIP telephone system infrastructure.
- Assists librarians and media directors in technology areas as needed.
- Assists district staff in the development and deployment of new technologies as indicated.
- Provides appropriate documentation on all systems and procedures relevant to networking and Internet technologies.
- Acquires additional training and knowledge as necessary to maintain mastery of applicable technology.
- Design and implement short and long-term strategic plans to make certain network capacity meets existing and future requirement.
- Develop and deploy methodologies for testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports.
- Manage and ensure effectiveness of servers, including e-mail, print, and backup servers, and their associated operating systems and software.
- Conduct research and make recommendations on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.
- Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, and maintaining the districts LAN/WAN infrastructure.
- Collaborates with district and building leadership to ensure equity is infused in practice and remains at the forefront of efforts to disrupt inequities.
- Performs tasks as assigned by the Director of Instructional Technology & Technology Services
Qualifications: - Advanced experience and knowledge with Networking protocols and concepts.
- Experience and knowledge with Storage Area Networks.
- Experience with virtualization technologies.
- Experience with different types of ethernet cabling, fiber cabling, fiber connections and their limitations.
- Experience with Cisco routing and switching equipment, wireless access points and VoIP.
- Relevant Cisco certifications or experience.
- Experience with Network Performance Optimization.
- Experience with Active Directory.
