Network Systems Administrator Broad Functions: Responsible for network systems, Windows, VMWare hosts and other servers, TCP/IP, Cisco IOS, hardware and software monitoring, maintenance, installation, maintenance of e-mail, and Internet services.
Responsibilities and Duties - Configuration and maintenance of network and related services (i.e. servers, gateways, modems, routers, switches, and user software, etc.).
- Familiarities with Virtualization build methodologies, performance tuning and memory management, and ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting. Plan, install, maintain and ensure the reliability and security of the VMware software. Provide input to system architecture and new system designs. Provide support for Disaster Recovery efforts including data replication.
- Assist in managing the College's Storage Area Network (SAN) for Windows hosts. Excellent knowledge of SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID, SCSI, and Fiber Channel technologies. In-depth understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles and practices. Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting storage servers and software.
- Evaluation and recommendation of network hardware, software, and services (i.e. servers, gateways, modems, routers, switches, and user software, etc.).
- Maintenance of network nodes (e.g. PC's, printers, scanners, etc.) including initial configuration and installation, moves, and coordination of PC and printer repair with internal or external repair service. Strong understanding of networking protocols & architecture.
- Provide accurate and timely documentation of changes to servers and the network, for use with future problem solving as well as disaster recovery.
- Manage the backup of all server-based college data, insuring that daily and weekly backups function properly, backup data is properly protected, and that recovery is possible in the event of data loss or disaster.
- Manage network capacity and performance, insuring that servers, routers, switches, and the network as a whole evolve to meet the college's growing needs.
- Install and maintain operating systems, communications, and network software.
- Maintain Internet access, and firewall security to college networks. High security system access required.
- Monitor and evaluate network security, respond to intrusion attempts, and improve network security as necessary.
- Develop and document policies and procedures for the administration of network systems.
- Implement new network capabilities as college needs change. Current examples include wireless network access and VPN network access. This includes researching options, recommending solutions, and leading the implementation of approved capabilities.
- Work with other members of the team to improve integration of networking facilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related discipline, or a combination of education and work experience.
Experience Five to six years of network/system management in a networking environment. Three or more years of mentoring technical support staff. Two or more years' experience with ESX host and server experience.
Special Skills or Conditions Working knowledge of network operating systems, switches, routers, and gateways. Working knowledge of network communications and cabling systems. Project management skills.
Desirable Personal Characteristics Ability to work under pressure, perform problem solving, and develop both short and long-range goals for use of network services. Ability to relate to computer users on a non-technical level for problem determination. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
