OverviewMust be US CitizenOnsite at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, ALOngoing fully benefitted W2 positionResponsibilitiesThe Computer Systems Analyst II reviews proposals which consist of objectives, scope, and user expectations; gathers facts, analyzes data, and prepares a project synopsis which compares alternatives in terms of cost, time, availability of equipment and personnel, and recommends a course of action; upon approval of synopsis, prepares specifications for development of computer programs. Duties also include the ability to determine and resolve data processing problems and coordinate the work with program, users, etc. This worker orients user personnel on new or changed procedures, may conduct special projects such as data element and code standardization throughout a broad system, working under specific objectives and bringing to the attention of the supervisor any unusual problems or controversies.Job Responsibilities:Use a variety of network management and diagnostic tools for monitoring, troubleshooting communications-related problems for NASA's Mission Network known as NASCOM.Monitoring and some maintenance assistance will be required of Cisco Routers & Switches, Junipers Routers.Operating NASA unique hardware items is also required.Support the network's operations and day-to-day activities in support of NASA missions.Work directly with other NASA centers and customers to help resolve real-time network and dataflow problems which are unique to NASA.Involved in several activities including the testing and implementation of new network services.Position is in the NASCOM Mission Alternate Operating Facility (MAOF), a 24X7 network operation center, that will be fully integrated with the NASCOM Operations Management Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. The MAOF will require supporting non-standard shifts, weekends and holidays.Must be able to pass both a written and practical certification test associated with the operations of the Mission Network within 180 days of hire.QualificationsRequired Skills:Knowledge of TCP/IP technology.Knowledge of IP Addressing and subnet masking.Excellent writing and oral communications skills.Hands-on experience with standard industry products eg. Cisco, Juniper, and Ciena.Effective communicator and able to coordinate network and customer issues with other technical sections.Ability to multi-task and respond quickly to real-time dataflow issues.Ability to work non-standard work hours/shifts.Pleasant personality.Knowledge of Network Monitoring tools, eg. NNMi, Spectrum, MRTG, CACTI.Experience in supporting Wide Area Networking connectivity.Desired Skills:Knowledge of normal trouble ticket processes.Hands-on experience with data analyzers, network probes and other network diagnostic and performance measurement devices.Experience in performing traceroutes, executing ping test.Experience in WAN protocols such as SONET and MPLS.Experience working with Commercial Carrier service providers, eg, AT&T, Verizon.Knowledgeable of transmission principals including T1, T3, DS-3 &OC-3/48.Knowledge of serial interfaces including RS232, V.35 and RS 449 preferred.Knowledge of Linux.Desired Certifications / Training:Current holders of either a CCNA, CCNP or JNCIA.Travel (if any):Occasional travel to Greenbelt, Maryland may be required in the first year of employment to support training.Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action:We are committed to hiring and retaining a diverse workforce.
