The Network Technician I is responsible to perform a variety of computer hardware and software related tasks which includes software support and training, data processing of information, analyzing computer-related problems with staff and supervisors, and working with the other information systems staff in the analysis of software applications; and performs related work as assigned by Admin Services SupervisorDuties and Responsibilities
  • Supports and maintains computer systems, desktops, and peripherals.
  • Creates and images computers using imaging software.
  • Assists with setting the annual preliminary budget for computer hardware and software needs. and handles all purchases within the department.
  • Manages office supply purchases and pricing.
  • Installs, diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and upgrades all hardware equipment.
  • Develops and provides end-user training and assistance.
  • Provides Help Desk Assistance to ensure proper computer operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks including receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user help requests.
  • Assist with VPN: Installs, supports, and provides training to county users.
  • Provides wireless support to public and county users.
  • Plans, monitors, and records software licenses and hardware assets.
  • Obtains pricing for computers and other equipment.
  • Identifies and prepares computers for disposal.
  • Develop written technical information about the organization's computing systems that aid in the development, use, and support within the office.
  • Administers in AS-400 operations, knowledge and control commands, key functions, backups, and system management.
  • Works with AS-400 consultants, as needed.
  • Works with consultants as needed and directed by supervisor.
  • Provide assistance with IFS operations.
  • Provide assistance in managing information on the county website.
  • Acts as AppXtender liaison Along with the IT Director and other staff.
  • Performs imaging system application support.
  • Assists with troubleshooting phone system issues.
  • Updates applications and delegates folder access on the H drive.
  • Assists with maintaining and troubleshooting data jack connectivity.
  • Maintains computer, conference room TVs, and network switch connectivity.
  • Maintains security by virus and malicious software prevention and removal, running virus scans, and cleaning computers prior to staff use.
  • Security Liaison for State of MN applications.
  • Operates as liaison to all Departments operated programs.
  • Operates as liaison for web-based programs.
  • Law enforcement and local police departments computer installs and troubleshooting.
  • On-call rotation.
  • Works with the IT director on planning, projects, policies, and procedures.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attends training/educational sessions, including web-based training.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Maintains knowledge of policies, rules, and regulations regarding duties.
  • Attends and maintains CJIS/ FBI/ BCA certifications, knowledge of new policies.
While these are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as part of their role with the County. Other duties as assigned.Position RequirementsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software terminology and of commercial software products.
  • Knowledge of computer directory structure and of networks and their functionality.
  • Knowledge of state computer software systems.
  • Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used in data preparation and data entry for computer processing.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical users.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers and supervisory staff.
  • Ability to reduce complex assignments to an orderly system of procedures.
  • Ability to detect hardware and software malfunctions and to diagnose problems.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and procedures as applied to computer operation and data processing.
  • Ability to train staff in a structured format.
  • Ability to handle confidential information and follow data practices requirements.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision with general autonomy in determining how objectives are achieved; supervisors generally set operating benchmarks, goals, and objectives.
  • Ability to use analytical ability in adapting standard methods to fit facts and conditions, using generally prescribed procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff, outside agencies and public to relay basic and technical information.
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree in technology and or 4 years directly related experience demonstrating an understanding of the principles and best practices required to support and maintain technology systems.
