Title:New P/T Wellness & Event Center Lifeguard PositionDepartment:Physical EducationReports To:Shawn BryanPosition Type:StaffPosition Summary:As a part-time WEC Lifeguard, the position holder is responsible for supervising & observing the pool environment, ensuring the safety of all bathers& visitors, enforcing all facility rules & regulations, and assisting the Aquatic Director with any aquatics related tasks as assigned. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Essential Functions:Work with fellow WEC lifeguards to keep constant surveillance of the pool and deck area & ensuring the safety of all guests.Enforce all facility and NJIT rules and regulations, including those posted on pool signs.Act in emergency situations in accordance with training and WEC pool handbook.Provide assistance with aquatic related tasks assigned by Aquatic Director, including setting up pool or deck for activities & events.Keep accurate records of pool usage, water chemistry, and all incidents as outlined in WEC pool handbook.Keep appropriate certifications current and valid.Additional Functions:Performs other duties as assigned.Essential Characteristics:Achievement/Goal Orientation - Demonstrates a concern and aptitude for achieving results against an internal or external standard of excellence.Persistence/Tenacity - Works systematically to meet or exceed stated goals and standards.Accomplishment Aptitude - Establishes and follows through on a systematic course of action to assure accomplishment of objectives.Teamwork/Team Orientation - Works collaboratively toward solutions that benefit all involved parties.Honesty and Integrity - Acts in accordance with university and departmental policies and expectations.Communication - Clearly expresses ideas, thoughts, and concepts verbally and in writing.Prerequisite Qualifications:State Approved certification for Lifeguard with CPR/AED & First-aid.Additional water related certifications preferred (WSI, Instructor, etc.).Former Lifeguard experience preferred.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Knowledge of or ability to learn NJIT policies and regulations for Facility use.Ability to foster a cooperative environment and organize effectively.Ability to identify and react appropriately to non-swimmers, medical emergencies, and unruly guests.Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.Bargaining Unit:Non-AlignedFLSA:Non-ExemptPart-Time#J-18808-Ljbffr
