About Gray Telemundo Spanish Language News Bureau: Centrally located in Atlanta, Gray's Spanish-language News Bureau is the hub for producing news for various Gray Telemundo markets throughout the US. This position will be working with Telemundo Atlanta as well as other Telemundo news teams for TN, AL, SC, NC, and other markets throughout the US. Job Summary/Description: WKTB is seeking a News Director who will lead an award-winning news team to provide news and information in Georgia and the Southeast. We are looking for a collaborative and dynamic news professional who excels with high expectations, passion, and dedication. The News Director will lead and manage news coverage for WKTB and Gray's Spanish Language News Bureau. The successful candidate will bring an established record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse newsroom. The News Director works closely with the General Manager and must have the ability to implement and execute a strategic plan for both on-air and digital audiences. The best candidate will have a track record of results and the desire to win the right way informing, educating and empowering the Latino community in Georgia and the Southeast. Duties/Responsibilities include, but not limited to: - The News Director will lead and manage news coverage for WKTB as well as the Spanish Language News Bureau - News Director to collaborate with sister station Atlanta News First and all Gray news stations. - The successful candidate will bring an established record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse newsroom - Work with the News Management team including the Executive Producers, and Digital Content Manager to initiate and manage well-branded content - Make editorial decisions on content - Effectively communicate goals and plans for the newsroom and ensure those plans are carried out by all staff members and various Telemundo stations - Oversee, with the help of News Management, all Anchors/Reporters, MMJs, Producers, as well as Assignment Editors/Digital Content Producers on story enterprise, development, and generate strong branded content - Execute Breaking News and Severe Weather coverage plans - Plan and execute ''Big Story'' coverage - Hold all staff members accountable daily - Conduct regular editorial and feedback sessions with news teams - Participate in editorial and planning meetings - Monitor newscasts and digital news coverage to ensure staff is meeting standards - Maintain a high level of confidentiality - Protect and defend the journalistic integrity of the news product - Ensure the news team follows best practices on all platforms - Execute news strategies developed by news and station management - Work well with all station departments/managers Qualifications/Requirements: - Proficient in English and Spanish, both written and verbal - At least four years of previous experience in newsroom leadership is required, as well as strong communication and organizational skills - Creativity and passion for news, leadership in teaching and coaching team members - Ability to multi-task in high-stress situations - Knowledge and understanding of using various digital and social platforms - Strong management, communication, and people skills required to supervise and interact daily with staff and the community - Proven leadership ability - Exceptional organizational skills - You will be called upon to provide strategic direction for daily news coverage, as well as work closely with the General Manager on long-range planning, and station initiatives and be able to demonstrate a history of cross-functional collaboration - Must have a strong desire to understand the audience across all platforms - Must be able to collaborate and share with a ‘big vision' mentality - Some travel may be required to Southeast markets for events, meetings, and news coverage. (approximately 3-5 times a year) - Solid editorial judgment and journalistic ethics - Strong news judgment and research skills - Enjoy a fast-paced environment with a desire to win Eligibility Requirements: Must be willing to work in the newsroom in Atlanta, GA Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and insurance.
