Job Description:
Position Summary:Assists with the scheduling of transport trucks and drivers to ensure the timely, safe and efficient delivery of petroleum products, throughout Northern New England in support of the Energy Division's Brand Promise, Guarantees and Pledges and Co-worker Pledges and Guarantees.Essential Functions:
  • Schedules and dispatches drivers based on established guidelines during the course of the work week.The goal of this process is the efficient and effective use of resources to achieve safe and timely delivery of petroleum products.
  • Effectively and efficiently utilizes all computerized dispatching and inventory systems.
  • Interact professionally and demonstrate courteous behavior with customers and drivers on a daily basis via phone, electronic device, or in-person in regards to the planning scheduling, and delivery of products.
  • Monitors inventory levels for retail gasoline stations, LP facilities, and bulk storage facilities.The dispatcher must be familiar with all delivery locations, gains insight into consumption rates, and checks inventory levels at many sites using computerized monitoring systems.
  • Manages driver hours according to federal and state D.O.T. guidelines.All Dead River Transport drivers fall under the Federal guidelines relating to hours of service regulations.
  • Manages incidents and unusual situations that occur including weather related issues, accidents, equipment failure, run outs, no-fit situations, etc.
  • Create accurate, detailed customer orders from incoming phone calls, emails, faxes, etc. honoring Dead River Company's commitment to Deliver on a Promise .
  • Interacts and communicates with the Maintenance Department in regards to equipment being out-of-service, equipment movement to and from DRT locations to vendors for repairs, services, and inspections, and coordinating relocation of equipment to DRT locations.
  • Participates in on call schedule with other designated personnel.This requires being on a rotating schedule that covers nights, weekends, and vacations.
  • Other Tasks:Performs other work-related duties as assigned.Experience:A minimum of one year of experience in a computerized dispatch or logistics environment is required.Knowledge base of the Transportation Industry.Familiarization of the Northern New England area.Other Attributes Required:

    Education:A high school diploma or GED is required.Contacts:On a daily basis the Dispatcher is in contact with customers, drivers, terminal personnel, contractors, and other DRC office staff.This position works closely with the Manager of Dispatch and Administration, mechanics, and the Transportation Manager.Decisions Made:Decisions are made relating to dispatching petroleum products and customer relations based on customer demand, priorities, and supply points for products.Some decisions are made in consultation with the Manager of Dispatch & Administration. and/or Transportation Manager.The Transport Dispatcher also makes decisions relating to drivers calling in during an emergency or other difficult situation.Safety Considerations:The main safety considerations relate to the safety of both equipment and personnel dispatched.A variety of safety related issues including weather and hours of service are important factors considered.Equipment Used:Computer, calculator, telephone, fax machine, copier, iPad, cell phone, laptop, Work Environment:The work environment is a fast-paced office setting.On call work is completed via cell phone, iPad or laptop away from the central office.Physical Requirements Analysis:
    • The position requires frequent sitting with some standing and walking.
    • There is frequent use of the hands/arms/fingersto reach, feel, handle paperwork, and input data into a computer
    • There is frequent communication involving both talking and listening over the telephone and in person
    • Vision requirements include the ability to read printed and handwritten documents and information contained on a video display terminal.
    Weight or Force Moved:There is seldom a need to lift an object weighing in excess of 10 pounds.
