Woodberry Forest School, located in Madison, VA, is an exceptional private boarding school community for high school boys in grades nine through twelve. It is one of the top boarding schools in the United States and one of the only all-boys, all-boarding schools in the country. The Security and Gatehouse Officers ensure a safe and hospitable working/living environment for the Woodberry Forest School community.JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrols school property to assure that buildings and grounds are safe and secure during evening hours.
- Responsible for securing and un-securing buildings at designated times
- Interact and work with diverse students, school administration and community
- Monitor and authorize the entrance and departure of employees, vendors/service contractors, guests and all visitors to maintain the security of the campus.
- Welcome guests, parents, prospective parents and visitors in a friendly, professional, and service-oriented manner. Notify staff of incoming visitors, as requested.
- Provide directions for deliveries and notify recipients (staff/faculty/residents) as necessary.
- Recognize they are in a position of public trust and are held to a high standard of personal and professional conduct.
- Monitor fire alarm system, 911, and WWTP alarms on an ongoing basis as needed. Notify proper personnel and respond to areas on an as needed basis.
- Be responsible for distribution of parking directions and maps for all athletic and major campus events and activities.
- Answer all calls into the school switchboard after normal hours and notify the requested parties.
- Prepare the daily security log and advise incoming officers of any non-routine activities occurring during their shift.
- Primary shift work from 11p-7a but willing to fill in for other shifts as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- 2 years of related experience preferred. Former/retired police officers and first responders encouraged to apply.
- Ability to multitask and work in a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent knowledge of security protocols and procedures, including the ability to interpret policies and procedures relative to situations that could present potential problems
- Ability to exercise good judgment and take quick, effective, and reasonable actions.
- Basic computer skills (log-on to computer, load cameras, timecard, read email)
- High school diploma or GED required; security training classes preferred
- Must be over 21 years old
