Full-Time601 Children's LaneAdvanced PracticeDays/Nights51.2200 Through 76.8300* GENERAL SUMMARY* Under the direction of the Division of Neonatology, the Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA) & Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides medical management of neonatal patients with a variety of diagnoses in the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or other locations at CHKD or in contracted facilities where NICU and/or general nursery patients are cared for. Reports to supervising physician(s) and department leadership.* ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES* Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient, family and staff education.* Performs a complete history and physical on new admissions and daily examinations and documents findings in medical record.* Generates problem lists and differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.* Creates a comprehensive treatment plan including laboratory, diagnostic testing and medications as indicated.* Effectively utilizes healthcare resources and communicates with other members of the healthcare team to provide family support, and discharge planning.* Performs other duties as assigned.* LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS* Required Licenses and/or Certifications*
Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):* * Registered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire.* * Current Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) required at time of hire.* Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):* * Current state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia required at time of hire.* * Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required at time of hire.* Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) & Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):* * Current prescriptive authority from the licensure Board of Medicine from the Commonwealth of Virginia and DEA registration from the Drug Enforcement Administration required at time of hire.* * Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.* * Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.* MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS* Required Education and Experience* * Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):* * Master's degree in Neonatal Nursing Practitioner is required.* * Must provide record of completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.* * Three or more years of nursing experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) required.* * Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensure, certification, educational and application requirements is required during employment.* * Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):* * Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.* * Must provide record of completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.* * Continuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensure, certification, educational and application requirements is required during employment.* Preferred Education and Experience* * Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):* * One or more years of experience as a Physician Assistant experience in a Neonatal setting preferred.* Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* * Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):* * Execution of a Non-Competition, Confidentiality and Non-Solicitation Agreement is required.* Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA) & Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):* * Ability to travel locally between facilities is required.* WORKING CONDITIONS* Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures.
