Minimum Knowledge and Experience:
  • Two or more years of Accounts Payable Experience preferred
  • Familiar with payment processing in a high-volume environment; verifying invoice charges by comparison to purchase orders and receiving documents
  • Proficiency in using automated accounting software (D365 & Great Plains experience) and related office equipment
Skills:
  • Possesses excellent written, verbal, communication, interpersonal, and presentational skills
  • Excellent computer skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Communicates successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential
Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties):
  • Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the KCS principles of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence, Safety & Security, and Economic Performance
  • Completes payments and controls expenses by receiving, processing, verifying, and reconciling invoices
  • Verifies vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions
  • Handles accounts payable for separate entities and vendors
  • Analyzes and updates workflow processes per department standards
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with internal, new, and existing vendors
  • Communicates and resolves payment issues with internal and external vendors
  • Ensures bills are paid in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to departmental procedures
  • Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions
  • Compares purchase orders, prices, terms of payment, and other charges
  • Processes transactions and performs accounting duties such as account maintenance, recording entries, accruals and reconciling books of accounts
  • Completes other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Employee must pass a proficiency test in MS Word and Excel prior to assignment
  • Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent educational credential
