TITLE: Yard Duty
SALARY RANGE: Hourly Rate
SCHEDULE: Varies by school site
SUMMARY
Directs children during the access and egress of the school grounds; ensures their safety during the process; directs and monitors a safe flow of traffic in and around the drop-off/pick-up zones; maintains order in the zones for drop-off and pick-up before and after school; safely directs vehicular traffic and pedestrians around any hazards; reports behavioral problems to the principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
a. Required:
1. Graduation from high school or its equivalent.
2. Must be able to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
3. Read, understand, and apply a variety of policies, rules, and regulations.
4. Analyze situations and apply inductive and deductive reasoning.
5. Ability to direct children in an effective and courteous manner.
6. Act quickly and with mature judgment.
b. Desirable:
1. Previous experience providing supervision to elementary students. This experience could be in community groups such as scouts, church, YMCA, etc.
2. Valid California driver's license.
3. Knowledge of student conduct code, Education Code, and Penal Code sections related to student conduct.
4. Bilingual: English/Spanish
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assists certificated employees with preventive discipline for the purpose of explaining school rules to students and parents.
* Assists the administrators and staff in supervising and controlling student behavior.
* Assists in stopping student fights and other potentially dangerous situations for the purpose of maintaining a safe and orderly school campus environment.
* Completes necessary written reports for the purpose of maintaining an accurate record of events.
* Escorts students to the school administrator for the purpose of dealing with students who have serious or repeated violations of school and/or behavior conduct.
* Establishes rapport with faculty and students for the purpose of gaining their trust and confidence and information students of acceptable school behavior.
* Intercepts non-students who come on campus during school hours for the purpose of directing them to either report to the office or leave campus and notifying the school administration immediately if a non-student fails to comply, returns again, or otherwise creates a problem.
* Intervenes in situations likely to result in disruption or injury for the purpose of directing students to refrain from such conduct.
* Patrols in and around the campus, including parking and adjacent areas for the purpose of providing general supervision of students outside class and remaining alert to problems likely to disrupt the educational process.
* Supervises student detention (if applicable) and other areas under the guidance of site administration for the purpose of ensuring a safe and orderly school environment.
* Other related duties as assigned.

* PHYSICAL:
1. See with or without vision aids, including accurate peripheral vision and distance vision; read printed matter with or without vision aids.
2. Stand and walk for extended periods of time; stoop, twist, bend over, grasp, reach overhead, push, pull, and move, lift and/or carry up to 15 pounds to waist height.
3. Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
4. Speak English so that others may understand at normal levels.

1. Interact daily in person with other members of the school staff, children, and parents.
