5 Tower Orthopedic/ Neurological Post Surgical Care Unit Nursing Assistant
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
* The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
SUPERVISION: Reports directly to Nurse Manager and/or Charge Nurse
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
* Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
* Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
* Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, activity).
* Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff.
* Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
* Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
* Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.
* Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
* Utilizes unit specific equipment competently.
* Competently performs unit specific procedures.
* Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
* Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
* Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
* Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
* High school graduate/GED preferred Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant in a hospital setting may be used as a substitute to the education requirement.
* Graduate of an approved Nursing Assistant Training Program preferred.
* CPR certified preferred.
* Basic computer skills.
* Ability to communicate professionally with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; ability to exercise independent judgment.
* Requires emotional stability and maturity; must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
* Work requires a variety of physical activities, including moving about within and outside of all hospital properties for long periods of time.
* Ability to work weekends
* Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergent situations.
* May be required to assist in controlling disorderly conduct or combative patients.
* Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
