SUMMARY PERFORMANCE DESCRIPTION: To provide a coordinated clinical assessment and utilization review service for the Program. To coordinate the intake admissions, insurance precertification and review of the treatment staff. To develop strategies that result in a positive community relationships and image that assists the facility in meeting its goals. To work closely with the Director of Business Development to enhance the goals of the hospital.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION: Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or related field preferred. State Licensure as Professional Social Worker / Counselor preferred.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of or experience in mental health or chemical dependency fields; ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines; ability to adapt to workload demands and set priorities; positive, professional presentation; ability to build rapport quickly and develop working relationships; ability to work cooperatively with the program staff; good communication and organizational skills. Clinical experience sufficient to perform required assessment services. Requires access to transportation.

PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in the behavioral health field.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Moderate physical activity. Will be located in and around the Program and the Hospital. Frequent travel within a radius of 50 miles with occasional travel beyond is required with the employee providing his/her own transportation. Some hazard potential from possibility of physical acting out behavior of patient and health related communicable disease.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB:

Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner; must be able to work and concentrate amidst distractions such as noise, conversation, and foot traffic; ability to handle interruptions often and be able to move from one task to another; must be flexible and not easily frustrated in dealing with differences of opinions.

Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, and be able to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, and/or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of the fingertips. Ability to express and exchange ideas via spoken word during activities in which they must convey detail or important spoken instructions to others accurately, sometimes quickly and loudly. Hearing to perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 db loss @

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB:

1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction; ability to perceive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound. Perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands and fingers.

Individual must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work requires a minimum standard of visual acuity with or without correction that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe patients within the facility and in therapeutic activities. While worker may possibly be subjected to temperature changes, the worker is generally not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions as they work predominantly inside.

Must be able to set and maintain therapeutic distance with clients; maintain therapeutic boundaries during treatment and following discharge.

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical and Assessment Responsibilities:

A. Provide clinical evaluations of prospective patients determining patients appropriateness for the program.

B. Coordinate the psychiatric assessment process with the attending psychiatrists.

C. Identify age appropriate developmental tasks and needs as evidenced in the development of care and the treatment planning sessions.

D. Maintain contact with personal care homes, nursing homes, medical-surgical units, the Emergency Department, Local Mental Health Clinic and other facilities and agencies to promote the program and to provide education regarding services available for their patients/clients/residents.

E. Provide ongoing communications with referral sources concerning the status of patients referred into the program.

F. Develop appropriate medical necessity templates for insurance reviews and precertification.

Develop Strategies to Meet Facility Goals:

A. Develop UR plan, call schedules and or action plans as needed that outline specific strategies aimed at successfully management of the UR approval process.

B. Maintain profiles on the facilitys referrals and referral sources.

C. Contact area referral sources with awareness / education of the program and offer consultation and support from the clinical staff on mental health availability and needs.

D. Develop strategies to seek HMO/PPO and other third party Utilization Review success including reporting regulatory or poor quality indications such as readmission, insurance denials, extended length of stay, and any other issues / needs as appropriate.

Maintain Positive Relations With the Hospital Leadership staff:

A. Participate and Provide Appropriate reporting from Intake and UR in all Director level and staff level meetings relations. Providing results monthly.

B. Develop and coordinate a All UR needs to Leadership Staff

C. Coordinate the announcement of new Processes or Referral changes to All referral sources as needed

D. Develop and maintain a referral logs and reports as needed.

E. Develop an education program to introduce referral processes to new hires and maintain education to staff as needed

F. Maintain ongoing contact with community agencies to provide information on the program and assist in coordinating referrals.

GENERAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

Appearance and Reliability:

1. Observes the hospitals dress code policy.

2. Wears identification badge provided by the hospital while on duty.

3. Provides notification of absence from work in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Housekeeping Safety and Equipment Care:

1. Maintains a clean and safe environment.

2. Reports safety incidents and hazards to Safety Officer.

3. Promptly reports all equipment malfunctions to immediate supervisor and notifies Maintenance department.

Judgment:

1. Is vigilant to the day to day business fluctuations and responds promptly to re-prioritized assignments to fit the need.

2. Performs routine assignments independently.

3. Seeks direction when indicated for unusual or non-routine duties.

4. Advises appropriate personnel (i.e., Supervisor) of situations requiring nursing, administrative or technical expertise and follow-up.

5. Manages his/her time effectively.

a. Completes all assignments within the allotted timeframe.

b. Establishes priorities for using his/her time to the best advantage.
