General Responsibilities:# The Nurse is responsible for the identification, management and resolution of health problems of individuals in the school program. In addition, this person will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of individual health care appropriate to the ages and populations served. The Nurse maintains operational aspects of assigned individual heath care areas and works collaboratively with the other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team.## This position supports Melmark Carolinas mission to serve children, adolescents and adults with autism spectrum disorders, acquired brain injury, neurological diseases and disorders, comorbid mental health disorders and severe challenging behaviors. It is required that employees demonstrate their understanding of that service mission through their work behavior and commitment to the students and the staff who are directly involved in the delivery of that service. # Schedule:#Monday- Friday day shift Starting Rate:#$30.33/hour (+) based on years of experience # Basic Qualifications: Education/Training:#Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor#s Degree in Nursing preferred; Registered Nurse considered.# Certifications/Licensure:#Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the North Carolina Board of Nursing.# A valid US driver#s license and a minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old.# Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.# Must meet North Carolina background check requirements. Successful completion of employer provided certification in CPR, First Aid, Crisis Intervention, and Melmark#s Orientation Program and New Hire Onsite training program. Skill(s):#Strong general nursing skills with emphasis on the care of individuals who are emotionally, behaviorally, neurologically or developmentally disabled.# Strong communication and interpersonal skills required. Experience:#Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience in a developmental disabilities setting with minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience preferred. It is the responsibility of each staff member to read and familiarize themselves with the contents of the Employee Handbook and ask questions relative to the application of these standards in the workplace if unclear to the employee.Essential Functions* Reports on duty at assigned time; reports absence as far in advance as possible, but in no case later than normal reporting time.* If resigning from the position, all positions require a minimum of four weeks' notice. Management positions are required to give additional time dependent on the size and scope of the position, but six weeks would be considered minimum. Melmark Carolinas retains the right to refuse professional reference except as legally required to those employees who do not give proper notice.* Assumes responsibility for the direct provision of safe, efficient, quality nursing care.* Ensures that the nursing care delivered is in accordance with philosophy, goals and objectives of Melmark Carolinas.* Ensures that the care delivered to each individual is in accordance with nursing standards.* Ensures adherence to the policies and procedures of the Nursing Department.* Assists the Director of Program Administration and Clinical Services and Director of Educational Services in the development of policies and procedures.* Communicates to staff and implements changes in policy and procedures and other appropriate information to the direct service staff and provides feedback from staff to the Director of Program Administration and Clinical Services and Director of Educational Services.* Monitors the delivery of individual care for effectiveness, quality of care and accuracy.* Monitors and assists staff in the formulation and utilization of the medical record ensuring timely development of the nursing care plan and any required treatment plans. Monitors medical records for complete and accurate documentation of the nursing process.* Ensures the provision of continuity of care and discharge planning and instructions.* Ensures that physicians' orders are transcribed and carried out.* Ensures the provision of individual and family healthcare teaching and education to enhance the knowledge, skill and behavior necessary to fully benefit from health care interventions.* Acts as a liaison between individual, family and physicians.* Investigates all student and/or family complaints.* Responds to all crisis situations.* Maintains required records and reports in accordance with North Carolina regulatory standards.* Seeks assistance from appropriate resource persons as necessary in solving clinical and management problems.* Promotes and maintains a safe environment for the delivery of individual care.* Promotes employee safety.* Assumes responsibility for infection control activities.* Delegate's responsibility within scope of personnel abilities.* Evaluates staff performance and make recommendations to the appropriate supervisor regarding employee performance as pertains to healthcare services.* Provides leadership to staff.* Sets specific goals, standards and objectives for individual care and areas.* Provides orientation and training to new staff.* Provides in-service education to staff.* Provides information concerning available continuing education opportunities to staff.* Maintains proper equipment and supplies for healthcare services.* Participates actively on committees as requested.* Participates in teaching employee orientation.* Assists with consulting medical staff and pharmacy.* All other reasonable duties as assigned by Supervisors.Basic QualificationsEducation/Training: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred; Registered Nurse considered.Certifications/Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse through the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
