The Nurse Midwife participates in performance improvement/research activities; maintains professional practice standards and clinical expertise; and demonstrates leadership skills. The Nurse Midwife demonstrates core and unit specific competencies based on the patient population served. The nurse midwife assumes complete responsibility for the care and management of essentially healthy women in accordance with the midwifery practice agreement and with institutional practice privileges. The nurse midwife participates in educational activities for healthcare students and assists with research studies.EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:1. Current New York State license as a Registered Nurse.2. Current New York Midwifery License.3. Certification for prescriptive rights by NYS Department of Education4. Participation in ACNM Continuing Competency Programs.5. Baccalaureate Degree and Masters Degree plus satisfactory registered professional nurse experience.6. Five (5) years of satisfactory clinical nurse-midwifery experience may be substituted for a Masters Degree.7.
