Job Type Full-time Description Salary: $117,000 To $131,000 DOE Location: Admin House / Riverside Drive Clinic JOB SUMMARY : Under the general supervision of the director of health services, plans, directs, and evaluates resident and employee health care in ambulatory health services. Examines and treats chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses. Performs selected laboratory testing, referrals to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. Works with the medical director in the care and treatment of residents and staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Sees ambulatory patients in the health services office for selected laboratory testing, examination, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and acute episodic illnesses and minor injuries. Refers to physician as needed. Writes prescriptions and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment. Makes house calls when necessary. Schedules follow-up visits in office or unit as needed. Performs physical examinations (Pap tests, etc.). Confers with residents' private physicians as needed. Counsels residents and helps them understand their limitations and abilities. Conducts support groups in subjects related to physical and emotional health (i.e., challenge of change, dealing with losses, dealing with chronic illness as caregiver, etc.). Coordinates health promotional activities (providing printed information, routine testing, flu shots, mammograms, etc.). Performs staff employment physicals, TB testing, etc. Examines staff after on-the-job accidents or injuries. Acts as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health of residents and staff. Serves as a staff in-service resource. Maintains outpatient records. Records statistics and conducts research as deemed necessary by institution. Compiles necessary reports concerning ambulatory care at facility. Collaborates with staff to identify residents' needs and help develop plan to meet these needs. Follows residents in health center as needed for continuity of care. Works with families. Serves as a member of committees dealing with health care. Reviews medical data forms for applicants to facility and advises administration as to health status of applicant. Meets with new residents to orient regarding services, identify needs, suggest local physicians and services, etc. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner or physician assistant program. Current approval by the joint Board of Medical Examiners and Board of Nursing to perform medical acts. Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse in the state. Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching and have a master's degree. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (based on essential functions): Able to lift 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist fallen resident. Able to lift 10 pounds for routine performance of essential functions. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS CRITICAL TO PERFORMANCE: An individual in this position may be exposed to: Adverse indoor and outdoor environmental conditions Blood borne pathogens Physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.) Chemical hazards.
